Give me your ideas and experiences with why a cow aborts in her third trimester.  We had a cow checked preg (blood test) Nov. 1.  On Jan. 7 the bull was following her and tried to breed her.  Today, 44 days after the bull was interested, she is in estrous.  We probably didn't catch the cycle on or about Jan. 28.  She was still on pasture through November and may have lost it there where we wouldn't know.  We should have seen something in December when they were near the barn.  Any opinions or experiences as to why they abort is appreciated.

I'd consider the possibility of Neospora.  If I were you I would pull blood and have it tested.  It's a cheap test and you can either confirm or rule out this cause.  Genetic Horizons will run samples for less than five bucks.

It could be a whole host of things... the only one we had abort in 3rd term was due to trauma. It was a commercial cow that we had on rented pasture that we were trying to load into the trailer, she got spooked by the neighbors stupid dog, and corrals were not very good and she attempted to jump the panel and came down right in the middle of it crushing the panel in the process with her stomach.

Now I'm sure you would be aware of trauma that severe but she could have been pushing around with other cows and one hit her hard enough in the right spot to cause the abortion.
