Here's an interesting Tim Ohlde interview that touches a bit on his history breeding cattle including Beef Genetics Research, Fleckvieh, Beef Friesians, Amerifax, Angus II, Angus, and Ildeno.

Couple of threads where we talked Beef Friesians and Amerifax that included some bull pictures:

Tim had students that were from Cal Poly for a while of which I was one and several others I knew. He knew Mike Hall who was a beef instructor at Poly from shorthorns, who Tim was also involved with which i wish he would have went over. He would bring a 24 foot trailer or two of club calves to sell in the Cal Poly steer sale that went on every year (lots of human mating went on as well). Lots of good stories. If they were thinking, they should have asked him about jakes proud jazz, lots of other topics, but nice interview. i can't remember which bull, but i think it was anchor, had him cloned and sold them to argentina. he said all of them had the same dew claw or something. there are so many individual stories about cattle and individuals. he mentioned he was buying land when everyone was going broke. he bought crop land that was terraced, and turned it to pasture (he mentioned this in interview). he told me that he bought that land because it kept the water better. the USDA for years helped farmers make ponds. farmers would tell those who signed up that they would just fill up. my great grandfather did it and they told him he was crazy, but he told them he was just collecting their soil. those ponds are still there. tim has grown and made silage for years. one of the funniest things was he had a cull pen, and some people would just have to look at it thinking they were going to get a diamond in the rough. one time i asked him why he was taking such and such a cow to the cow cull pen. he said, well look at her calf, that's what it looked like the last two, so she's done. cow was awesome looking, but calves were pathetic. he mentioned bugs, grasshoppers, boy howdy were there were a ton of them, driving a cabless mower was hell. anyway, great times. too many stories. he/trudy should have someone ghost write a book about people, cows, bulls, pasture, farming, his family, show steers, students etc.
