We have several over here, they are OK. They don't have a lot of grow on them, and none will make it to our show pen, but will be nice breeding pieces. Amazingly, two of them have white faces (out of dams with white on the face). They have attitude also, they take a little more work to get them tamed down. Not mean, just not easy to work with. They like to fight you all the way.
We have a really nice Lock Down bull calf, out of a first calf heifer,Upgrade. Nice blaze face on him.
Our favorite calves this fall have been the HPF Optimizer, ACW Iron Hide, and Hooks Broadway calves. Love all of them! We have several Live Ammo calves due in the spring, pretty excited about those too. I do not think I have seen any yet, he is a young bull.
I plan on trying Elevate on some heifers this fall (next week, when they come in). On heifers that are Dream On influenced, and our good HPF Optimizer heifer calf our son showed this year.
Thanks for your reply, Firesweep! How are the Optimizer and Ironhide bull calves looking? Are they better heifer makers or bull makers? I've been wondering about sampling Optimizer and Ironhide next year but I haven't been able to see many calves yet! I haven't heard anything but good things so I might just try them both anyway! How are Optimizer, Ironhide and Broadway for throwing depth in their calves? If you have pictures that would be great too! You can PM me if you prefer! Thanks again! (thumbsup)
We have one iron hide bull and two heifers. EACH ONE of them are super good. He throws lots of hip, they have plenty of rib, and all three were out of different type cows. The two heifers will be in the show string for sure, and of the three so far, two have had nice white faces.
Optimizer we have some of both, and again, both are super (bulls and heifers). Powerful, great docility, and just plain good. I have heard Optimizer will throw white, but we have not had any excess white yet.
We have just had two Broadway calves, both good. Both came small. One we had to put down because he was paralyzed, we are still working with the state vet to figure out why. We have several more due in the spring.
Here are some pictures...
The first pic is two bull calves; the bigger on the left is an Iron Hide and the smaller one is a Broadway. About 3 weeks difference in age. The Broadway was out of a first calf heifer, and 48 pounds at birth, so he is smaller for that reason. Both fantastic bull calves.
Second pic is the same Iron Hide calf, at a few weeks old. STUD!
3rd picture is a 60 day old Iron Hide heifer calf, out of a Shear Force cow. She is my daughter's show heifer for next year, we like her a lot so far.
4th pic is our oldest Optimizer. Super happy with her, and look forward to her next year showing as a senior yearling
last picture is a June Optimizer, now over 600 pounds with no creep and still on the cow. He is pretty good himself.
