Vaginal Prolapse?

Have a recip cow due today with a much anticipated embryo pregnancy. Went and checked her around midnight last night and this is what I saw. I'm assuming its a vaginal prolapse. She was laying down and when she stands up it goes back in. She is a 7 year old cow and has done a great job at raising her calves, this is the first time I have seen her prolapse.

1. Should I do anything right now?
2. Could this jeopardize the well being of unborn calf?
3. I understand this is hereditary, but she is only a recip cow, what are the potential complications of keeping her with a high probability of her prolapsing again next year?

Not a prolaspe yet, looks like the amniotic sac ( water bag) to me. I wouldn't worry yet. Keep an eye on her

I have an Angus cow thats done that every year for the last five years never gets any worse and she has no problem having her calf I wouldn't worry about it

If you have a real vaginal prolapse, you won't have to ask questions.  You'll have the whole reproductive tract hanging out.  I've had two - one had to be put down immediately, the other we had a vet try to fix and we'd have been better off putting her down from the get go.

Keep an eye on her.  I've had several do that. Some are just prone to it for some reason and it's never really a problem.  If she hasn't done it before I would say she is running out of room. Could be a big calf or twins. If it comes out after she calves then as others have pointed out you've got real problems.  Good luck.

The ligament that sup ports the repro tract has just got a little lazy and streched out.  It happens.  Nasco used to have a support to put on the cow to add a little support,  with a little thinking, you can do the same deal with the wide nylon tow straps.  Use the hip bones to give a little forward pull and cross the straps under the vulva.  If it doesn't get a lot worse just be mindful.

I had the same exact thing happen a few years ago and it turned out fine.  I bought a pregnant recip with one of my eggs in her.  The baby came okay and she raised him just fine.  Needless to say, I sold her after the calf was weaned. Good luck!
