Was going to point to school debt, overhead, time, etc, but that has already been done.  Instead I will share a anecdote from when was I chiropractic school,  similar schooling, probably less overhead and definatly better hour.

The first year and a half of school we were all not understanding the need for doctors medical or chiropractic, to make so much money, when we got out we were going to lower our fees and be more reasonable.  Then in the middle of taking 32 tests or quizes in a 27 day span including weekends in which most of slept very little, so friends and family less, were reminded of updates. Of how much we were going intoebt to have all this fun, one of my friends turned around and looked at me during nuerophysiology class and said,  " this is why doctors make so much money"

A professional, doctor of any kind or lawyer or accountant gets paid for what they know, and all the hours that went into learning all that they know.  Sometimes it is knowing what to do, how to do it, and I feel the times I earn my money the most is when I know what NOT to do.    All of that combined with the overhead student loans etc etc.  Like someone else said, if you think they make too much money quit what you do and go to vet school.  Remember it takes a tremendous amount of dedication and intelligence to make through any doctorate program and while classmates were making money, we went further in debt.  We have to be able to recoup that difference and then some to make it worthwhile
