Has anyone seen this bull? He is at Nichols.Called them and they seem to be pretty high on him. He's freezing good now. They also said spring breeders probably won't be able to get semen until next year, unless they have their orders in now.Was told they have 5000 units on order.

He looks very nice to me.

VERY wide, and will downsize.

At the risk of starting another fight, I would like to give my honest asessment. This is what I would like to hear if I asked the same question. This bull has tremendous thickness. Plenty of style. If I were to change him, I would give him a little longer front, and a lot more flex to his rear pasterns. I would also like to see a longer stride, which is hard to ask of a bull with his extreme thickness. I would also watch the calving ease, due to his pedigree and build. I think this bull has a place in some scenerios, and will sire some good ones down the road.JMO

I would add, that to those that like to breed Heat Wave/HW clones, I would use some of Walks Alone if you can get it. He looks like he will sire the HW type, but in MHO is better structured himself than the HW clones. Like Olsun says, He can't take as long of loose natural stride B/C of his thickness. Good looking bull.

BTW, we are planning to flush a cow to him & breed 2/3 more to him to see what he can produce. Brent

From TMJ's post I would say slim to none

I got on the list over a month ago, and I'm still not sure where that puts me. Hope he starts cranking out some juice in quantity.

I got some at the Ohio Beef Expo. What's the odds of it being good? Collection date is mid March something, I don't remember the exact date, but it was just a few days before I got it.

I talked to Wade Rodgers today: He said it would be doubtful if any semen would be available for spring breeding unless you have a order in now. He even told me it would be July or August before the fall breeders can get any,due to the demand. Thanks for giving your assesments of this bull, the more opinions I get the better, good or bad.

Throttle,

Rest assured that if it came from NCG, its good.  That is assuming that it has been handled correctly.

Bringing this back up for 2 reasons:

Does anyone know if the bull is registered with the AMAA?

Has anyone seen the full sib at Smith's on the Pro Tour? With opinions being so mixed from the people that have seen Walks Alone, I thought it would be interesting to see what people thought of a full sib

Thanks!

Yes. I forgot there is more than one Smith out there  :p
I remember when we would go to Dennis & Brad's farm years ago, and have our pick from a certain group of calves for $750.00 a calf.
We still have one of those picks in our herd. She is 10 years old now, and one of our best cows. The Golden Child heifer in my Avatar is out of the Smith line. Aw some cattle, wonderfull family.

Yeah, there are dozens of places that have sales in IA, Labor Day and the weekend after, where guys used to eat up steers at $800-$1000 a round, fill the trailer, bring em home, blow em and mow em, and sell them for $2500. Was just a matter of who got there first. I don't think honeyholes like that exist anymore.

So have you seen their set this year? What's the full sib to Walks Alone like? He took a nice picture

No we haven't been there yet.  They always have very nice calves. They have done very well since they started private treaty, then on to the Pro Tour. When we drive through Smith's pasture looking, it's just like the 4th of July, lots of ooohhss, and ahhhs!!!
