This is my 9 year old daughter's first time to show an animal.  We got her this Maine-Anjou heifer.  She is very gentle. She is about 16 months old, weighs around 930 lbs.  We plan on showing her towards the end of February.

Get her a great clip job and she will change a lot. She seems light for a 16 month old heifer.. our 13th month old simmental heifer is 1200s. Pour the feed to her and get her clipped really well, and I think you will have a nice first time heifer for her!!

Thanks!! She's pretty short, so her weight is going to have to be below average for her to look right.  We are planning on getting her a good clip job before we show her.

Looks like a great first calf project. Your daughter looks so proud standing there with her calf. Disposition looks like it couldn't be better. The heifer does need some condition, but groceries will fix that. You may want to get her poured. Her hair quality will improve. Hope you have loads of fun with the project. Brent

Ditto.  The first year project can set the tone for the rest of the child's showing career.  You've done it right by getting one with such a good disposition.  It's almost impossible for a judge to overlook a little kid showing an animal that dwarfs them!  Best of luck and, yes, feed her up a little.  If she's short, she should cover over pretty quickly and easily.  Let us see some pics of the show!

I agree you have a good project.  If she is my daughters heifer, I want her eating 12lbs. of a good show ration, twice a day.  We would also be rinsing the heifer every day, and brushing every hair straight forward.  If it's too cold to rinse, thin down some Kleen Sheen about 50% water, and spray her down twice a day, and brush every hair straight forward.

A few weeks of this, and her good clip job is going to look MUCH better!
