Chambero, I have to agree with you I don't believe politics was involved in his decisions. He picked really good calves but I beleive he let a lot of good calves go that never got a look because he rushed his decision. The choice you had for proving your point of it not being political is a poor example in my opion. The father of the kid showing the champion angus is very well known in the cattle industry in north Tx. He judges alot of shows and has even judged at the major level in Tx as well as sells alot of show calves. As I posted earlier my biggest issue was the alley to the arena and that I believe is a safety issue. Even after all the complaints from myself and everyone else this year, I already look foward to FWSS 2014. As a family we really enjoyed ourselves.

I have no issue with the steers the judge chose, no doubt they deserved their placings. It just seemed that this year more so than in the past, if you weren't in the first 30-40 in the arena, your chances dropped off dramatically. Personally, even though the end result may be the same, I would rather have the judge spend a few more seconds looking at a calf rather than get his 10 pulled and then just glance over the group as they walk out, or turn his back like he did. At least you'd have the appearance he took time to look. I am curious if there were any of those classes where only 10 were pulled if any steers weighed out, has anyone heard?

To me especially at a major show every calf that walks in that ring should get a true evaluation, meaning the judge should take the time to look at every calf from the front to the side to the back and on the move. More than likely every calf that comes in there is a decent calf, maybe not a class winner but a good calf that somebody put a lot of time and money in, and every kid that walked into that show ring did it with pride knowing that there calf was good enough to compete. I agree with an earlier statement that all major shows should have multiple judges not just a single.

Thank you Chambero, for trying to talk some sense into these people. This is just like dealing with a bunch of KU basketball fans after they lost to TCU. The world was going to end because the cards got turned on them one time.

Pretty much any family with the capability to get a calf to a breed champion hole is very good or at least has someone helping them that is. However, in this particular instance that family is not part of the "tier" commonly accused/associated with having a high level of political influence in big time steer shows.

I have never been to the FWSS, but is on my bucket list to attend hopefully someday. This will possibly stir up some, but I can't help asking whether some of what is happening here is B/C it seems that we have became a spoiled society and kids anymore get a ribbon actually just for participating. All of the sporting events anymore all of the kids are winners. I myself would rather teach them going in that sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. I think that it would teach better sportsmanship along with life lessons. There are very many shows that you literally only have one or two seconds to get your animal looked @. We used to pull hogs around some & both the Iowa state Fair and Aksarben are that way. You better have your game on & not just @ that moment but preparing for that moment in advance. Really if you ask yourself when you are watching a show or if you are out on the road looking @ cattle, how much time does it take you to look and decide about most of the individuals that you are evaluating? Of coarse there are those that take more time, but honestly it usually does not take me long at all to evaluate livestock & I don't really try to second guess myself. If it was a fast judging chances are Johnson wasn't spending time thinking about politics. I maybe somewhat naive, and I do know that there are more politics involved than what I want to think, but I don't know @ a junior level if it would play as hard as larger open shows. I do think that Chambero is right in saying that it is not helping the show one bit by making this such a public issue. If I were a buyer I would be thinking twice about what I was giving my money to after reading threads like this one. JMO.
