What is the best TH and PHA free bull

Whats your opinion on breathe easy?? We did use him on some of our females. Some were cross and some purebred shorthorn. We will be getting our first calves outta him this coming spring.

The heifer at the bunk is out of a Northern Improvement first calf heifer. The steer was out of a Peer Pressure (Dr. Who) first calver.

What ever happened with Amen, he's  clean, I liked the way he looked, did his calves not pan out or was he just not used by the right people or on the right cows?

We used Amen probably when he was first on the market, we didnt have much luck with the 2 calves we had.  they were both a bit on the wilder side and not a whole lot to look at as far as muscling.  However we didnt have the cows we have now either - breed and quality.  We used him on two limousin cross cows probably 3/4 limos.  We have a herd of 50 or so Purebred Limousin we raise for meat. I just dont think it was a good cross so I cant hold it against him.

With Friction (Flush) in him, you have to work the calves different, you have to be nice to them or they will remember.

TOTALLY agree with VC ON Friction  cattle but are some of the best females around .....  If you have some start working with them at 3 months ,sure helps a lot ....One of the good X  with Charolais if got right kind of cow ...

If your goal is to raise show cattle for you kids I would stay away from Shorthorn unless you want to breed you PB back for registered cattle.  Look at Mr. Fire Water, Loving the Business or Yellow Jacket for Charolais cross, Chopper or Hired Man for Black bulls, and Medicine Man or Red Bull for red/red and white bulls that have the power and depth of lower quarter that most  Shorthorns lack. Totally disagree with your comment on shorthorns. It depends on breeding and the mating.

What are the blood lines you have currently in your herd? That makes a big difference. Any mating maine, shorthorn whatever it is. There are certain lines over the years that just work. I am sure when you mate your purebred Limo's you don't just use the first bull you see. You plan matings. I would suggest the same thing in this situation. Certain bulls are very maternal and work better in that fashion. There are some good shorthorn lines old and new that work for show steers.
Kris Black has one heck of set top to bottom no matter the breed.

Lower quarter seems the most important muscle and hair length on show cattle. How important is this cut of meat?  And if it's that great, why do we then make the most expensive cut flat. One would think we would want loin meat flat like a pancake. At some level, one has to ask why don't we clip them the opposite way?  Loins really tall and round and the lower quarter flat to emphasize the better cut of meat, sort of make it seem there is more value in the carcass. I've actually wondered this since I first started and wondered why the whole thing is fake and everyone tries to figure out the what is good and bad and argue about who is on the halter and what color to wear etc I think it would be a great show to have the most outrageous clip job show and just see how creative people could be.

You are right. I plan the matings based on the faults of the dam that need improvement, I try to breed for docitility, in our limos obviously we breed for performance as we sell them for meat.  I am newer to the breeding for show. I don't know those lines as well as our limmys. I have three shorthorn heifers which two are out of JSF Believer a jazz son, ones dam goes back to desert rose and jsf achievement. The other believer daughters dam is the kimmihill lines. The other shorty is a alta ceder emperor daughter and dam is a trump

I also have a mainetainer out of Gucci. a cross out of monopoly and a Irish whiskey dam.  The last but not least a monopoly money out of a Meyer 734 Angus cross cow. Like I had said originally I need to have a few tested for pha and th. I know my shortys are clean. So that's what I have for bloodlines (other than our limmys)

AMEN worked really well for us on larger cows. Went back to some Hired Man again. Park Place, Yellow Jacket and One and Only will get used on any potential dirty cows again here.

I have had some excellent Charolais X calves out of AFSL Sin City. I purchased a group of Char cows from a guy who had Sin City semen and was just using it up. He is white, but has all the attributes.

You guys are missing out on some clean bulls that are 100% Charolais or crossed, their are some pretty good bulls down there in those hills in OK. & TEXAS .......
