What state or breeder has the best or most Red Angus Cattle

From what Justin and Roger have said it sounds like they are just getting to big and had to make some decisions about where the farm is going to go. They will still have all of their black angus, so well over 200 cows.

Red and Black Angus are basically two breeds anymore and I know from personal experience that it is very hard to do everything you need to do when you are splitting your time between more than one breed. There will still be a pile of cows at Sooline, and I expect the black herd will expand. I have not talked to Roger or Justin as to what their plans are but this is just my guess. In any event, I think they have put together two amazing cow herds in a very short period of time. It is going to be an interesting sale to watch as I think some excellent cattle that would never be offered ordinarily, will go under the hammer. I may get a chance to take another quick look this afternoon, as Chris and I are taking a couple of CDs of the sale catalog over this afternoon so they can proof it.

I know nobody cares abot it on this board but the start of the Red Angus breed is an amazing story. Basically one ranch combined with what 10 other breeders. It was almost a philosphy rather than a breed. Mandatory performance records. No showring to screw stuff up. A tight knit group that started it all. It is really an interesting story. I'm not sure what state Forbes-becton are in....Wyoming? One of those states where people talk funny...up North of Denver somewhere. I think Red Angus are really popular in the hot states. Down there where cattle don't have performance.

My wife is just finishing the Sooline Red Angus Dispersal sale catalog. This dispersal will be held October 15th at Midale, Saskatchewan.This will be one of the best sets of Red Angus cattle offered in a long time. The sale catalog is over 100 pages and every page has some great cattle. The sale catalog will be online in a few days at www.soolinecattle.ca. Check it out and I think you will be impressed!  The sale would have been even bigger however a large ranch in the US purchased all the bull calves( well over 100 head).

I drive by their pastures often, and usually find myself almost in the ditch after looking too long at a great set of cows and not watching the road.

I'll be headed up to Soo Line for their sale, and am really looking forward to it.  Hopefully I can get a couple bought.

If you were looking for some Red Angus heifers/cows for breeding stock, where would you go.  Looking for deeper, thicker, easy fleshing, type with good maternals and growth.  Not taller showy type.  Simmilar to Ohlde or SAV type in the black angus world.

If you want something like Ohlde's in a Red Angus package, Kit Pharo & his co-op partners have Red Angus genetics that are certainly shorter legged, deeper, thicker, easy fleshing, etc.  In fact, several of his Red Angus bulls actually have Ohlde genetics bred in them.  One of his Red Angus bulls is OCC No Doubt... he's listed as a frame 5.0 & weighs 2,200+.  EPDs:     B.Wt. -2.7       W.Wt. +23    Y.Wt. +52    Milk +16    It says that No Doubt is co-owned with Ozark Hills Red Angus and Ohlde Cattle Co.  I bet Kit could locate some Red Angus females for you.
