"Plain in her makeup" is about as good of a compliment as a functional cow can be given. She may not be best suited for producing androgynous show steers but she looks like a good production cow to me. If you'll 'settle' for a heifer, you may be better off choosing a bull that's more geared towards producing replacement quality females. The extreme type you'll need to breed this particular cow to, in order to have a chance at producing a competitive steer, is certainly not a bull you want to keep replacement heifers out of.
