What was your best Christmas gift this year??

Now that ours is all over & we are in a self induced sugar haze & still trying to dig out from all the wrapping paper....   what was everyone's favorite Christmas gift?

Mine was just seeing how happy the kids were with what they got.    Hubby's .. well, he claims it is the starting fluid that one of the kid's accidently wrapped.

Well, by the time you get to my age and place in life, if you want it, you've probably already gotten it for yourself.  So, for my 'kids' (all grown up with kids of their own) it's really hard to find something for 'mom' that's original.  So, to help them out, I asked them to donate to a charity of their choice (which ended up being the charity of MY choice!) whatever they would normally budget to spend on me.  And, they did it!  They gave gift certificates to my account at Kiva.org, which is an internet site that coordinates donations around the world to various micro finance organizations.  So cool!  You can go here, http://www.kiva.org/lender/dori6822, to see what it's all about!

My sons bought me a sander to mount on the 4 wheeler. This sure will help as our laneway is over 3/4 of a mile long. i guess they felt sorry for me doing it with the loader tractor and a shovel.

My mother hand wrote a cookbook for my wife that has a slug of stuff she used to make me as a kid, so that was pretty cool.
My favorite is actually pretty simple. It's basically a surge protector with a swivel clamp on it, so I can mount it on the clipping chute and have enough outlets to plug in the blower, clipper, and halogens if I want to.

I got some great gifts, but my favorite  is my  Nasco’s Heavy-Duty show Halter, or PBR Out Of The Shute PS2 game.

My wife usually buys all the presents for my dtrs for Christmas( at 15 ,14 & 8 I don't have a clue what to get), but I always buy them one thing that is from me . This year I bought my 8 yr old a game for her Nintendo DS . In order for her to keep from geussing what it was I wrapped it in a Kamar heat detector pad box . You should have seen the look on her face when she opened it. I'll give her credit though, because without opening it & seeing what was inside , she came over & gave me a kiss & said thank you.

My favorite gift by far is my new laptop. I spend most of my free time on the computer, and now everyone won't have to fight me over the desktop.  And it has PLENTY of space for all my music, pictures, and has WiFi.  (clapping)

I'm pretty fond of my new clipper box.  Now I don't have to lug around the ancient thing we've had since the dinosaurs roamed the lands.

Ill have to say my favorite so far is my Apple 30g video Ipod. Its pretty amazing I think. Also I got some of the Ritchey engravable tags. Blue with the white insides, my school colors! haha Dad has some and I think they're pretty neat. Kinda excited to get the grinder out and see what I can do..

Between Thanksgiving and Christmas my daughter, and neice and a nephew each got engaged!!!

This thread, made me think back to a very special Christmas that I will always remember. I have three sisters and at that time, they were all living with their families close by. We all got together for Christmas and each year we drew names, so that we did not have to buy gifts for the entire clan. What made this Christmas special was two fold... it was the last year that our mother was alive, and it was also special ,as we made a rule that all the Christmas presents for the family draw had to come from a garage sale with a $25 limit. It truly is amazing what you can get at a garage sale for $25 if you are really frugal.  I was a bit reluctant as I had not spent much time going to garage sales, but my sisters tried to convince me that this was going to be fun. I have to say, it really was fun, and it sure beat trying to find a perfect gift in a packed store.

I have often thought that I would like to attempt this idea again. My sisters and their families are scattered now, and live 300, 600 and 1000 miles away and we don't seem to get together very often.If anyone is looking for a way to put a different twist on the gift giving of Christmas, I certainly would recommend trying this idea. I do not remember any Christmas where we had so much fun... either getting gifts or giving them.

With our big group we stopped exchanging names a few years ago for the last few years we have had just brought a $15 gift and did a gift exchange/white elephant type game. This year Mom decided we should do something a little different. She had each of us bring a gift from home that we no longer needed or used. It had to be something of value not just junk. Anyway, some were sceptical but those us us who participated found the gift were at least as good and appropriate as the ones that were purchased in years past, and they did not cost us a penny.

WE GOT MY DAD A LARGE PRINT OF THREE BOY'S WASHING A SHOWCALF!!  HE PUT IT RIGHT OVER THE FIRPLACE, YOU DON'T FIND TOO MANY PICTURES OF SHOWCALVES ANYWHERE.

We don't have our new "gift" home just yet, but surprised our boys (ages 6 & 3) with some "puppy hints"  (dog) to spring the surprise!  They were first in shock...and then thrilled!  The new responsibilities will come in January sometime when we get her home...we can hardly wait!  We are certainly anxious to make the trip in a few weeks to IA...they have been great to work with and come highly recommended!!    Not sure how many others are spoken for, but here is a link to the website... http://putzlivestock.com/Available.htm

Thanks Jason...  For those that were wondering, she is a blue merle female australian shepherd.  Should be great on the farm with the cows too, as my parents own a daughter out of a full sister to this one.
