I do have to agree with that. I do know who your talking about and if heard, so dont quote me, but 12 were returned last year as nonbreeders. However, the majority of the heifers shown, by other breeders, are not that way.

Wow would like to be on the selling end of a few of those deals.  ;D  Most sales I've been to the prices (although somewhat subjective) seem to be down year over year.  That indicates that the top end is still very very strong, however.

Would be cool to see that same list at the end of the year with posted results on how each one did.  Also it's still early it would be interesting to see how many times a few of those steers change hands.

Oh AJ!!!  I'm really glad your back on SP!!

I don't buy very many heifers over $5,000 but I have purchased a number of Shorthorn heifers in the last few years.  Every one of them are either in our  herd now or are producing for the people I sold them too.  I have found them to be awfully good mothers.  I wish I could say that about all the heifers we have purchased of other breeds.  Now, I understand that my experience has been on a pretty small scale but I'm pretty sure you could talk to a lot of long time cattlemen that would not pick maternal traits as the first place to criticize the Shorthorn breed.  Having said that, I can't believe that an arbitrary dollar amount would change the overall maternal ability of the breed very much.  I'm not demeaning any other breed and Shorthorns aren't perfect, but overall they're generally darn good mothers.

I'll give you credit , though, you do like to stir things up.  Sometimes that's good as long as you don't confuse bold, pretentious statements of personal opinion with fact.  I'm not saying you are in this case, its just that I think you'd be a long time working to convince many cattlemen that have experience with Shorthorn females that they are not worth keeping in their herd.

Keep posting---SP is a more lively place since your return!!

Oakbar......I have never been one to let facts get the way. I like to set up a strawman and knock them down. ;D
