I am soon ordering my semen for this year.  I have about 6 cows to breed and need some help in selecting a clubby bull.  All the cows are straight RA.  About 1200lbs to 1500lbs mature weight.  I am needing to keep or add frame, add base width, thickness, bone, and keep their structural soundness.  I have really liked the calves I have seen out of Dr. Who, Hired Man, Dirty Hairy, Wilson, Monopoly, Yellow Jacket, Hoo Doo, and a few others.  I am not concerned about the resulting color, or adding extra leather to their necks.  I just want wide, hairy, freaky looking babies.  If I get good heifers out of these bulls I will be aiming at keeping them as clubby mothers.  All steers will be prospected and sold.
I am a "northerner" and have not had the privaledge of seeing any of these bulls, or many of their calves.  I have picked up all my info from constany studying on the net.  Any help/extra photos/info would be greatly appreciated!
I know I can rely on SP!

I love our Dr. Who's, we have had really good luck with him, however I would not consider him clubby at all, and you will not get a clubby look out of him bred to a Red Angus in my opinion.  I haven't used any of the other bulls on your list.

Heat Seeker will work, I used him several years ago on some RA cows with good results.  Dr. Who will do alot of what you are wanting to do but they will not be rocket fronted. Hanibal should work well also.

JMO, I woud try to find a couple of bulls that will make clubbie mommas. I don't know if there is a bull that will do what I think you want in one generation.

What about a shorthorn bull would that possibly work.

I have definately thought of that.  May you suggest some?  Keeping BW low, and that shoulder under control of coarse.  I really liked the bull Tuscaloosa at Denver '08.  His video is on cattle.com.  Anyone know much more about him?  Of coarse his first calves are just hitting the ground now.

Are you talking about Duis's bull? He is very nice i saw him over the summer and i am now in the process of getting semen on him! However he is not a proven sire yet. He is a Bloodstone out of a Sonny cow. He was the high selling bull last year in the Shorthorn breed. He is REALLY an outstanding dull/

Gus.. now there's a thought.  I like that!   What color(s) would she get?

Our new moderator should be able to answer that.  Paging Mr. Olson!

We have a white PB shorthorn bull. He's had amazing showy calves. Their hair is amazing too. Very gentle natured. Throws smaller calves and they are born very active and gain weight easily. We are selling straws for 25.00 and certs. for 25.00
Let me know if you are interested and I'll pm you calf pics.
Here is a pic of him now. I can pm you a pic from when he showed. It's too big to load on this site.
Thanks Patti

Hey Bawndoh

Happy New Year

Take a look on our web site of some of the commercial calves from BA cows that Ruffian has produced.
He might fit your needs and we have semen available.
Also think about Major Leroy.

The guy that owns Okie Dokie said that he is known for calving ease. My be Sonny & Clear. I'm sure some one on here can tell you if there is a Shorthorn that you can use on heifers.

I've heard of Alias working great on Angus cows, including a recommendation for him on that type from Matt Lautner.  You'd probably get a pretty nice calf or two if you used him on several red angus females.  His only drawback has supposedly been when used on real heavily muscled females.

Bawndoh, you asked about Tuscaloosa?  I've spent some time around him, and I think he's going to be a Super good bull. He needed more depth this summer, but he really bellied down and thickened up by Duis' sale.  He is starting to look a bit like Sonny, and that's definitely not a bad thing.  He's also got a really good attitude, he was one of my favorite animals to mess with at Duis'. I can't wait to see how is calves look this spring.

IMO, he's quite a bit better than his full sib heifer that sold in 07 at the same sale.

These are two of my all time favorite Durhams to look at. WHR shorties on Red Angus females. Gotta to love depth of this female.
