What are the good and bad things about both areas? We are looking to buy in one of the 2 areas to retire in 10 years. Thanks for any help.

I like both area's. Pryor is closer to big city life[Tulsa] but would imagine land is higher in that area.Checotah,is close to Muskogee, which is more than large enough to shop, etc. Would imagine land would be cheaper to an extent. Checotah is the home of Carrie Underwood and the birthplace of the great Merle Haggard. Both places are a good proximity from great fishing both in Oklahoma and Arkansas.Pryor is flatter and probably has tougher winters.Pryor is closer to beautiful scenery.I would say in reality that it is six of one and a half dozen of the other. Close your eyes or draw straws and go for the gusto!!.

Thanks TMJ. We just spent 10 days traveling all over the state and what you have said is the same we found. Oregon is nice however the cost of living index is over 100 and Oklhoma high 70s to low 80s. Dollars go farther in Oklahoma and that is why we are planning on leaving Arizona in 10 years.

Oklahoma has Great cows and a ton of shows too.No traffic problems, great hunting and fishing neighbors who are neighborly great sunsets, awesome lightning shows and sometimes powerful tornado's.Lots of republicans that vote democratic, buckle of the bible belt, great universities, awesome high school sports, which ohio and several other big time states,go home with tail between legs and won't come back, cause they say it is too far or too hot.[just kiddin].I spent 35 years there and will return [if I live] within 10 years myself. Not a native, but it far and away gives you more opurtunities to live a healthy life, where for the most part you can still leave your doors unlocked and keys in the pickup. You also can shoot  a trespasser and not get prosecuted,as long as you kill him and not maime.
