He also raised a full brother called Red Wave that CAB is going to try this season.

He has raised several other full brothers (I like the looks of Gold Glove), and kept some interest in a couple of them, but I think he just sold HW. He raised a few other bulls that looked pretty good but were lighty promoted. There was one called National Treasure that was a Godfather out of HW's dam. Anyone ever use that one?

It takes a lot of money and a name to promote a bull, not everyone has the resources to do it.

Shawn, you must be confused today. The bull is Red Bull and you were responsible to proto the bull for the rest of us here on the Planet.
Wave Runner is another full Sib. There are a bunch actually. HW's dam has been @ Trans Ova almost full time since HW hit it big time. Max did not keep any rights to HW and would do it different if he could get a re-do.
I was looking hard @ using National Treasure at one point, thinking that @ least half of the power could be coming from the dam, but then the bull ended up being a PHA carrier not that I won't use PHA carriers, but @ the time it did back me down.

HW's dam has never had a natural calf since HW. He was a bit on the LARGE side. She has been flushed so many different ways. Meyer, friction, heat seeker, Godfather, Madrid, Reload (herf), you name it. There have been many full brothers to him promoted, and a few just used for clean up around here. Ones that come to mind are Gold Glove, Red Wave, Wave Runner, Red Bull, and the Closer, as well as National Treasure who was a maternal sib. My buddy owns part of Gold Glove and he said calving reports have been good, but i have not heard a whole lot out of the rest of HW's full sibs. Wave Runner had a couple winners in his first crop. the fact that HW has been cloned 327 times(or something close to that :) ) probly doesn't help semen sales on his full brothers.

I like how everyone buys the original HW semen form lautners.  (lol) what are the chances you are buying clone semen?  the original quit producing semen when he was 4 years old. wonder if the clones will putter out at that age also

The funny thing is at one time in his life, heat wave himself was destined to be a $1500 county fair type steer.  I believe Lautners bought him for song (less than $5k).

In February, the original Heatwave had NOT quit producing, why would you say he hasn't produced in 4 years?

rumor mill has it that Heat Wave, Wave on Wave, and Who are all dead

If Who died recently, then that's OK with me...12 years is a long time to be working that hard.

With the way that HW looked in the last pics I saw of him, I wouldn't be surprised if he dropped dead the next minute.  Even if he died this year, 8 years isn't too bad for an ole cripple.

Heat Wave was still producung in Fall 07.  He did have trouble getting around as we've all seen via photos, but they had a vet from Texas go up and work on him which reportedly did help him.  Matt Lautner told that it had helped his semen production a lot.  Based on the conception I had on him that fall, he was telling the truth.

There are too many wrong rumors on him.

If you owned HW or were real serious about raising black show steers, you dont think there are too many clones.

I will be happy when a bull comes along that will sire better steers than him,but till then......

OK, here's my question about the HW and his brother thing...  Obviously, none of them are breeding on like HW did, and its certain that HW mother hasn't produced anything close to him yet either....  My question, since no other bulls seem to work, why not put ole HW back on his mother?  Consentrate those genes, and see what will happen....  My thinking- it will either make a great one, or an absolute shit eater...  But hey, isn't that the whole goal of club calf producers anyways??  Don't they come out great or terrible, very little in between...???

Thoughts to ponder-

I did see the original Heat Wave and 2 clones in Oct at  Stud.  Monopoly, smooth sailing, ali two,  and a couple more. The original HW looked a little tough but I did not get the impression that he was not freezing.?
