It's my job (big brother/oldest son) to get the calf out, and then it's everyone on the calf messin with it until Momma runs them off.  Then it's my job to break the calf, clip it, and then fit it.  And little sister gets the glory  :p

I know that feeling and some how I bet my daughter ends up the same way

That's the way it was when my sister and I showed.  I didn't mind it.  For some reason I liked doing the grunt work.  My sister has always been able a better showperson than me anyway!  When you find a way to win you stick with it! ;D

Boy did I get in big trouble the other day. Because of the economy my husband took a job that takes him away from home about 60 hours a week. I had mentioned that I would like to learn how to clip, boy did I step on some toes! He thought I was trying to take over everything. Geez, all I wanted to do was learn how to do something new.
One a different note, I have been know to be called the cow whisperer. For some reason I can calm down a mad cow and get them to cooperate better than anyone else in the family. Maybe I need to try the technique out on my husband :)

"My life is a series of priorities, that change by the minute!"

This obviously doesn't work.

I feel more like Ace Ventura. After he kissed the Field goal kicker!

It is not just the women who don't understand the cattle industry.  Every guy I date has a problem with me working outside to much.  Or being late for a date becasue there was a sick calf or a cow having a calf.  It is just part of it and they need to either get over it or go away

I tell ya, I got me a good one.  Two years ago, she had never heard of the word "Shorthorn", and now she's leading, brushing, washing and helping out in the show barn like a pro.  Sounds like a long time, but this little lady was flat against her doing any of it for a good while.  I find it very difficult to date a girl who doesn't find washing calves and then going to Dairy Queen with your work clothes on a romantic evening.  (lol)

Hey Okie, you better be careful or you'll have every young guy on SP chasing you!!  Girls with your way of thinking are hard to find.  I like it!!

My daughters have had similar problems with the guys they date---if they don't have patience with the girls "cattle time" they usually don't last very long.

I once told my my eldest daughter(she was in junior high at the time) to invite all the guys in her class out to see how we handled "studs" on our farm.  The invitation just happened to coincide with the day we were gelding our colts.  Although, she thought it was a stupid idea at the time, a year or so later she asked if the invitation was still open.  We never did do it, but I think it got her in the right mindset for the future, anyway.  We also mentioned the idea to several of her male classmates and I like to think it got them thinking a little too!!
