  MARLIN FIREARMS CLOSING ITS DOORS
Date: Thu, 24 Jan 2013 11:55:55 -0700 Subject: MARLIN FIREARMS CLOSING ITS DOORS-Important for all gun owners Even if you do not own a gun you need to know this.  I checked this out on "Truth or Fiction" who verified it.  I trust them more than Snopes. Marlin Firearms is already closing its doors!  They are doing it to us,  America! This needs to be spread to all gun owners and sportsmen/women.  We cannot rely on the media to inform us of these types of matters.

Something you may not know that Is happening ...  Who is buying the companies manufacturing guns???  For the last several years a company called The Freedom Group has been buying up gun and ammunition manufacturers.  Some of the companies are Bushmaster, Marlin, Remington, DPMS, Dakota Arms and H&R.  Some people worry that this Freedom Group is going to control most of the firearms companies in the United States.  If you control the manufacturers you can decide to stop selling to civilians. What a perfect way to control guns.  Now if you do some digging you will see that The Freedom Group is owned by a company called Cerberus Capital Management.  Guess who controls Cerberus???  GEORGE SOROS, Obama's chief financier!!  He wants to restrict or ban all civilian guns.

Please pass this on to all your freedom loving friends.  This needs to come out.  Why have we not heard about this in the "mainstream" media?  I would think this would be BIG news.  (Soros also owns Progressive Insurance).  If you don't know who George Soros is, you need to do some research.  This One-World Government atheist backed Obama with millions of dollars and Obama is a puppet on a string controlled by Soros. Send this to every gun owner you know!

(This is where I am afraid we are going folks!)

Absolutely disgusting news ! I think somebody in particular deserves to be dragging behind a camel in kenya!  That's as internet friendly as i can put it!  Fellow hunters and sportsmen, we need to do all we can to protect our heritage now more than ever. Im sure nobody in that godforsaken D.C. cares anything about a distant bugle on the next ridge or a youngsters smile when that first red falls from the trees. We all know what it means to us,  everything!!!

FYI - The NRA itself on their own website says the involvement of George Soros in the Freedom Group isn't true.  I remember seeing this floated around on Facebook a long time ago.

I magine Marlin is going out of business because nobody want's 30-30s anymore.  I don't know if I've ever known anyone who owned a Marlin gun other than a 30-30 or a 22.

Business consolidation is just a reality nowadays.  Holding companies are prevalent in every industry.

Ammo prices are pretty much just a function of very high metal prices and the much more precise manufacturing using in new and improved bonded bullets and such.

Go buy a Browning, Weatherby, or Kimber and keep a Leupold scope son them.  They are better anyway.

ammo price is high right now because with all this gun control debate, all the guys that would normally buy a box or two went out and bought a case or two... or more.. so the next guy does the same thing and pretty soon ammo cannot be made and distributed fast enough to keep up with the people storing it up. our local shop said this is just like what happened 3 or 4 years ago when this debate came up... i am finally able to start finding reloading supplies since some companies are catching up.

FYI- i dont even own a Marlin and probably never will, thats not the point at all the original poster was trying to portray ! Thats the problem,  too many people dont care untill it hits one of the bigger ones like Winchester,  Weatherby,  or Browning. How many youngsters out there learn the sport with a Marlin 22 ???? How many hunters in their elder years learned to hunt with a Marlin 22 ???? Thats the point !!!!

You should have been buying from them.  Not enough people did.  Other brands make better .22s and most kids are learning on other calibers anyway.

And what about the families out there that cant afford the higher end brands?  They dont count?  Marlin gave them a reasonable priced option to start with,  i have friends that did this very thing.  I probably shouldnt join these gun disscuions on here as I'm way too passionate about it,  any loss right now is a huge loss to sportsman in general!  A youngsters smile holding his first 22 is no less holding a Marlin as it is a Browning!  And thats a fact!!!

Im an old far890-t and liked Pontiacs and Oldsmobiles too-they shut em down: due to economic necessity-thats business-Its ludicrous to think that with the hysteria going on about no more guns of any kind etc-and the demand ,massive sales, and resultant profits being made on sales right now-that some shadow organization is going to risk anti-trust llegislation (which liberals LOVE to blame on Reublicans) and lose millions-to-billions of dollars buying massive public cos. to shut them down-(maybe send the work to China like our liberal friend Romney LOL) Id say-and I cant remember the article-that Wallstreeters are making a pile of money trading the stocks of larger guns-ammo cos. because thats how they make MONEY; by movement of the market in an upward posistion (supply and demand) or shorting it-and investors from all political shapes sizes and beliefs do this every day-WITH TOTAL DISREGARD to the philosophies, affiliations, etc. of the entities in which they invest :Id love to set up my own personal anti-gun lobby and immediately sell it to a group of NRA rich boys LOL O0

I've been suckered in plenty of times by "true stories" on Facebook and conspiracy theories in general, but I don't think any part of this story is true.  Marlin's website is still up and running and says nothing about going out of business.  Marlin shut down a plant in 2010 which is when the rumors about Obama's financial advisor involvement started.  See below.  I'm pretty sure you can still go buy a truckload of Marlin 22s if you want.

The only manufacturing companies of any kind that stay in business in this country are ones that make something somebody else doesn't or that can make something that is better than what somebody else can.  We can't make stuff cheaper than other countries can.  We certainly can't support multiple companies that make the same kind of cheap things.  It affects cars, computers, clothes, steel, and on and on.  The gun business is no different.  Except they apparently aren't going out of business anyway unless Remington decides to just slap their brand name on those guns.

If Marlin ever does go out of business, its probably because they can't reach an agreement with prices with Walmart.  If anyone feels the need to point a finger at the loss of retail product manufacturing in this country, they would be a much more accurate target than any politician - Republican or Democrat.  Of course Walmart is just doing what we demand - which is give us lower prices.

People are apparently spending all of their money on ARs instead of single shot/lever action 22s so that their children will be properly prepared to fend off the UN or advancing US forces instead of that childish sport of plinking bottles or squirrels and rabbits with .22s.

Petzal: Marlin Firearms Closes Its Doors (in North Haven Plant Only)
By David E. Petzal

Latest Update: At  2:40 PM, EDT, I talked with a spokesperson from Freedom Group, which owns Marlin, and the news is better than first reported. The company is not, I say again, not, going out of business. The North Haven plant will be closed, but Marlin Firearms will be moved to a new location and will continue. Where, exactly, I don't know. Also, I wish to eat crow publicly for assuming the general news media did a story on guns and got the facts right. I of all people should have known better.

Earlier Update: It's not known right now whether this news report is correct. Marlin may indeed be closing, period, or it may be moving elsewhere. I have a call in to the parent company to find out what's going on and will advise you as soon as I learn anything.

This release from ABC News says it all: Marlin Firearms, which has been in business since 1870, will close its doors next year. I have no insight into why, except for the obvious one—the company was not making enough money, and its owner saw no chance of it doing so. It’s possible that someone will buy Marlin, but the odds on that are pretty long. In the modern history of American gunmaking only one company has come back from the dead, and that is Savage.

The irony is that Marlin has always made good guns, and its most recent models—especially the RX-7—are some of the best ever. If you have a Marlin, hang onto it. If you were thinking about buying one, do so forthwith, because there ain’t gonna be no more.

And wish some luck to the men and women who will be losing their jobs. Whatever happened was no fault of theirs.

See below for a similar article in Outdoor Life from 2010 saying that Marlin was going to close A PLANT in Connecticut.

They still list Marlin as being in business.  For anyone interested in the status of hte firearms industry, their 2012 Annual Report which can be found toward the bottom of the page is actually very interesting.  I'm glad this post triggered me to read it.  It actually talks about Wal-Mart's potential impact on their business if they lost those contracts (nearly 20% of combined sales totals for all of their products).  It also discusses volatility in metals and energy prices and how that affects the market.

Well documented Chambero (clapping) (clapping) and you are right on target RE Wallmart-and Im as guilty as sin because I go there for alot of things. Wanna ruin China? NATIONALIZE WALLMART-even though they have other markets-they aint got the money sunk there that they have here. The only thing that scares me all kidding aside-is that one will get hit by terrorists. But right now-arent any of the secret militias paying attention-THE KOREANS ARE COMING!!!!! O0

knabe said:
Biden: The assault-weapons ban is “just the beginning” of our gun-control plans/// yatta yatta if they pass it-but now its those pudgy extremely ugly (fishheads) Nort Koreans-threatening to come as a massive yellow peril-down the streets of Haysi Virginia (population 17) and over our entire country. Give me a 4-5 jets ALREADY IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY with the right rockets (non-nuclear I might add) and Seoul will be missing about 200000 people real quick like. And the long UNDETECTED swim from Korea to the US by the hoareds of millions will probably be averted. Truth be known these rather fat unattractive (gooks) have been trying this same ploy over and over for 70 years when they need money-but today-I think they represent a clear and present danger( perhaps comical if we decide to unload on them) -compared to the gun control rhetoric: one side hinting at some sort of absurd revolution, and the other (Biden) making sly comments to further stir them up and have them act even more like dupes -solidifying the vote against-ITS CALLED POLITICS-last I heard (lol) O0

As Chambero already pointed out the origin of this topic is a hoax, not to say that it doesn't get you stirred up. I for one am glad it is untrue and hope Marlin Arms stays in business for many years. The freedom group does own these companies and I thought it was interesting that atleast 2 of those companies are makers of the AR platform rifle that seemingly have brought on so much attention. Both Bushmaster and DPMS make some very fine AR-15 rifles and are great pieces of machinery.

Besides the Marlins and Remingtons, Wal Mart also sells the Weatherby Vangard rifles along with several other makers, I wonder how much of those companies contract are with Wal Mart?

Great rifle you will love it. Do you plan on reloading? You will get the most out of that rifle plus cartridges are hard to find.

I have never shot a speed goat with mine but a couple of mullies, 3 elk and a bear. It did a great job on all of them with a 140 grain Hornady Interbond.
