a drug company in the black is not robbing you blind, a politician does it with your eyes glazed over.  if being in the black is good for you, it's good for drug companies.  think about this, government has taken the profit incentive away from 7-10 days of therapy drugs like ones for staph and only research ones that you need to take for life like aids drugs, yet staph kills more people than aids.  go figure.

Well, down here in our neck of the woods. Houston area. We have a stretch of one road where with in two miles there are three Walgreens Drug Stores. That does not even include CVS, and the two grocery stores that have pharmacies in them as well. So, the way I see it is that the Drug store chains are making a ton of profit somewhere. I would have to guess at our expense.

what you are witnessing is the demolition of independent pharmacies by the overpresence of chains which can absorb losses through the rest of the business that those chains reside in.  marketing knows that independent stores are the easiest to destroy, since out of towners or newcomeres visit the stores that are there where they came from and buy through habit.  they also have the advantage of tax deals through local governments to build those stores "in the interest of the local economy" that the independents don't get, and therefore can't compete with.  once the overpresence has run it's gambit, there will be consolidation, and or elimination of some sites, but not before all indepedent competition has been vanquished and guaranteed by developers sitting on your local board of supervisors, school board of trustees, city council's etc.

Pill Popping

Let's face it, America is a pill popping excess prescription writing for sniffles, country. We would hate to be inconvenienced with the doctor telling us to get plenty of rest and drink plenty of fluids. Not to say some drugs don't do wonders but antibiotics for an ear ache or cold. So it's no wonder there is a drugstore on every corner that makes money. They are only giving us what we want. And we're spoiled by it when we think their profit off our bad habits is the monster in the equations.
