As I am sitting here at home instead of working because my company is slow and we have gone to 4 day work weeks, I was wondering,  Do you think that the nominees for president might have been different if the financial situation had occurred 6 or 9 months earlier? I do not remember nearly as much discussion about economic issues during the primary races. Would someone like Mitt Romney have had a better chance to win the republican nomination if the focus was on the economy and not the war in Iraq? I am not sure what would have happened but I think that the outcome might have been different in both parties.

Brent - That's what my husband thinks too.    I certainly don't know if that is 100% of it but there is definitly some of that there.

Had it happened sooner.. yes Mitt Romney would have had a better shot at it.

nothing will be different unless we start electing local officials who remove the support of the two parties and return control to local control.

local control means removing the kickbacks local developers get to make their profit by purchasing low tax base land, rezoning it to a high tax base, lying that construction jobs help the economy, especially when they hire illegal aliens.  this whole economy is based on a pyramid scheme of consumption, which requires population growth to fuel it.  the problem is, that the population we are importing is dumbing down faster than we can lower the educational standards through the federal department of education (started by carter, so we went to the moon without it, developed nuclear power without it).

the occupancy rate in silicon valley is shockingly low, yet the government is building buildings with taxpayer dollars.  why not allow a transfer of activity of those construction resources?  why must we always protect the buggy whip makers?

the wall street mess is all about retaining a business model that is no longer supportable.  since it was mandated, ie make loans to people who can't afford it, let alone 5 million loans to illegal aliens who can't afford it, extract the fees, trade the loans as quickly as possible, and turn the loan upside down for the holder of the loan through transaction fees.  this is just a fancy game of musical chairs and the institutions want you to bail them out so they can keep their lifestyle.

what would you do with $100,000?

I think Romney definetly would have had the nomination and won the presidency.  I think he knows his stuff when it comes to economics and business and I think he knows how to get it done.

I still would have liked to see Ron Paul be president.  Our national debt would have been gone after his first term because he would have gotten rid most of the federal government. I don't agree with his foreign policy, but he had awesome domestic policy.

A Dick Cheney/Mitt Romney ticket would have been a good presidency.  Dick Cheney would have been one of those presidents that absolutely scares the crap out of the rest of the world.

they are giving money to almost all financial institutions. They don't want it know who is really in trouble. For example Wells Fargo said they were fine but was told they had to take the money.

There certainly has been no incentive for the Democratically controlled Congress to try to help the economy before the election.  Interesting how everything is Bush's fault when the Dems have really controlled the lawmaking and oversight functions the last two years.  I don't remember our economy being in such a bad state during the first 6 1/2 years of Bush's presidency but I don't see people lining up to give him credit for record increases in the Dow, etc. during that time.  And he get's absolutely no credit for taking the fight somewhere other than here on American soil.  I'm not saying the administration had no role in the state of our economy but isn't it interesting that just because he's a lame duck president that everyone(even McCain) is lining up to make him the scapegoat.  History will remember Bush's presidency much more favorably than we view it now--unless the history is revised by the new socialist government!!

Its easy to complain about food prices with your mouth full and its just as easy to criticize the efforts to keep our country safe when you are watching the evening Liberal news from your warm home and not worrying about defending your family from violence brought here by people  who would like to see us dead or others who would like to just take our place by coming to our country illegally!

Apathy and gullibility will win this election!!  Most of the electorate are just too lazy or apathetic to really check out the character of voting record of  the candidates they vote for and rely on "journalists" from the media to deliver their opinions on who is most qualified to lead us.  Ask yourself this question--Did you know any journalism majors in college?  If you did, were they part of the mainstream or primarily liberal leaning activists?  Your answer multiplied over the last few generations might give us some insight into the state of our media these days.

OK, OK I know I said I wouldn't comment on politics anymore---Hey, if the politicians can change their minds every other day, I guess I can change mine once.
