Had to post this pic of one of our new borns.  he was born unassisted.  sire by monopoly money out of a milkman daughter. All the pieces are here to be a bull prospect or a great slick shear steer. It is said a great one can be identified at birth.  pic is at 24 hours of age.

Not to take anything away from your calf picture, but that cow......WOW!  She is fantastic.  How did she do in the show ring?  Her calf picture is just fantastic!

I love her.  How old is she now......and if you are not flushing her, WHY????

Born unassisted .    never showed cow.    tested her.  double clean.        we tried to sell her.  i guess we priced her too cheap.  lol.    glad we didn't sell her

I would like to see a side view of the calf before I judge his birth weight.
Do you have another side view photo?  I would like to see his shoulder structure. His butt view sure is attractive though!

Ah  AJ  we can count on you to be skeptical.  i didn't weigh this calf  i think after forty years of raising show cattle i can guess within 2-4 pounds of what they weigh.  you probably never see him as a mature bull.  he is destined to show in south Texas.    i do appreciate your thoughts.  i did get a pic today of his side view.  it is always fun to produce something like him.  he is a good one but he won't win a show till he gets purchased by the right people and is selected by the right judge.  long time till then.  for now he is a cool looking baby that people will base some of their breeding decisions on.

That calf is clearly 91.5 pounds!

Can you slip a halter on him tomorrow, and maybe get his head up a little for me?  I wanna really break him down for ya!

He appears a tiny bit straight, but he is indeed a calf to keep a keen eye on! It will be fun to watch him grow and develop.

I find some folks opinions about BW interesting here on SP. Who really cares if the calf's birth weight was 70 lbs. or 150 lbs., I mean really, Carl is happy with the calf and his cow had the calf with no problems so why argue rather he was 88 to 90 or not.

I purchased a bull several years ago that had 105 pound birth weight and bred him to 40 heifers out of that 40 I pulled 1 calf and he had a front leg down. And I weighted everyone of them to see what they weighted, they hit the ground between 92 and 108 lbs.. The calves were long and smooth and problem free. We all breed our cattle as we see fit and to our own standards if we want to breed them to 110 pound birth weight bull we know the consequences and have to except that when we breed them. No one is holding a gun to your head telling you to make that decision. Birth weight is only a factor as we place it in our category of importance and if you want to use a 72 pound birth weight bull that is your decision and if I want to breed to a 110 pound birth weight bull that is mine.

Carl that is a heck of a nice calf, hope you find a great home for him.

And BW is of relative low relevance if it is a steer.

I personally like the second calf better.  If you are producing these types of calves regularly, you are certainly doing something right.

I like the smoke calf more, I think he will have more power later down the road. He is a tank...but I really like both calves. They are what club calf people try to produce, congrats.
