Sounds to me like the Shorthorn show ring is a lot like some other breeds -- depends on who's on the halter rather than which is the better animal!

We had a "humpback" cow for many years.  Noticed it when we weaned her but decided to keep & see if it was trauma based.  Not one of her 7 calves showed any indication of the same condition.

Been raising Red Angus over 20 years -- have about 98 mommas & some heifers.  Had our first durham reds in 2007 and will definitely continue this program but on a small basis.  Not much into clubbys but are trying a few for our grandsons to show, mainly sell herd bulls to commercial operations...

Count us in!  We love our DRs.  Will try to post pics soon.  We don't show at Denver (politics) so wouldn't be attending a get together there.  Maybe someday at Phoenix? 

Just want to post a pic of my grandson's 1st grand champion win - with his Durham Red heifer at the AORB show at South Plains Fair in Lubbock TX.  He's always had to stand in the shadow of his big brother at the shows and he loves this heifer so very much, so I have to brag!

We generally ring our show bulls at about 1 year.  It's not the most pleasant task but we do it as a safety factor and because most major show reguire some type of nose lead on bulls over 12 mos.  We have never had one turn mean after getting a ring -- of course, if someone insists on pulling on...

All rice bran is NOT the same!  Moorman's makes other products containing stabilized rice bran.  Moorglo is one, especially if you want to add fat to a steer diet.  It also contains the omegas and cattle love it.  Natural glo is straight stabilized rice bran and comes in either meal or nugget...

It's wonderful.  We've used it for a while and it does cut the gut, express muscle, and believe it or not helps with hair!  Rice bran is the one of the most nutritious additives for all species -- combined with gamma oryzanol & wheat germ it does wonders.

For anyone who is interested, the South Plains Fair at Lubbock TX has added an AORB show to its open breeding cattle schedule.  Normally they only offer classes for Shorthorn, Limousin, Angus and Hereford which didn't help those of us with "other" breeds.  This new show will offer classes for...

Has anyone heard from road warrior or any of our other Iowa folks?  The floods are so terrible there I wonder how everyone is doing.  We're sitting here in country so dry & parched it's hard to comprehend the problems they're dealing with in the midwest.  I just hope they're all on dry ground.
