Mark - we have sprayed the side bars with several coats of clear laquer to keep the marks off of calves. RW

    New red angus website

I doubt that I make it down there, next week is "crunch time" for me to get information out for a couple of fall sales that we are managing. I would much rather go to the field day though! It seems like sale season gets earlier every year, just a little over 30 days and it all starts over again...

    Help!! Newbies here!

You didn't say if he has been leading the calf by himself or not. That is the first step. When they are "comfortable" with each other, get them both used to the show stick and have him practice stopping the calf with it's head up. When they have mastered that, have him try to "walk" the steer...

Any thoughts on what might have done this (gruesome) ***Updated***

I usually buy my snares in Ebay, they cost about $1.00 a piece including shipping.t's pretty hard to explain proper techniques on here without writing a book. Coyotes are creatures of habit, if they cross under a fence once they will probably us te same crossing again. Look for hair on the...

Any thoughts on what might have done this (gruesome) ***Updated***

In over 10 years of snaring coyotes, I have caught 2 dogs that I didn't want to catch. Both were waiting on me to get there to turn them loose and were quite happy to see me. It probably makes a difference that both were broke to tie as well. I very seldom catch "off species" animals, an...

Any thoughts on what might have done this (gruesome) ***Updated***

I find where the coyotes are crossing through and under fences and snare them. We have had reports of big cats here in S E Iowa over the last several years too. I have never saw one personally, but believe it is possible. We have a pretty large population of bobcats here as well but it is...

Any thoughts on what might have done this (gruesome) ***Updated***

I have had coyote problems in the past as well as dog problems. We have a simple rule in our pastures, if it doesn't belong - it dies. As a general rule, dogs will kill for fun not for food and coyotes kill for food not fun, but there are exceptions to the rule on both accounts. 2 years ago I...

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION OF THE IDEAL BIRTHWEIGHT?

I will wholeheartedly aggree with the comments from others about calf shape being paramont in selection. From my stand point as a purebred breeder that sells bulls to commercial producers, the ideal is a correctly shaped calf that weighs in the neighborhood of 82 pounds. That calf is easily...

We will be trying to get pictures if the 5X bull in the coming week along with pictures of the Sequoia bull that we have purchased out of Canada, weather permitting! RW

    Best bull in each breed

Aussie. I'm going to have to disagree with you on the R A picks. I'm not a fan of the K R daughters udders and structure, MMD can get a little fine boned for me. Rambo 502? RW

    Disrespectful teacher

We are actually dealing with our little school and it's budget problems right now. I was shocked to learn that we are paying a kindergarten teacher in excess of $55,000. Entry level in our school is $26,000 and we are an extremely small school. a graduating class will have an average of 60 + or...

    Disrespectful teacher

I have been there - done that in our local school with my two older daughters. I started with the politically corect meeting with the teacher. I was basically informed that I was obviously lacking in education myself and that the teacher was far better equipped to decide what was and what wasn't...

I will land in Regina about 12:30 p.m. tommorrow and head straight out to look the bulls over. If you're looking for a Red Angus bull up there give me a shout, should be a heck of a set of bulls! RW

    Red variations

It has been my experience that usually if you breed dark to dark it stays that way, however it is not 100%. Kind of a wild caed gene so to speak. Some bulls breed truer to color than others though. RW
