Hard work, time, and a little startup money is all you really need. I have been raising cattle since I was a kid and just started raising club calves the last 5 years. Started off with 11 cows 7 years ago and have 36 this year to calve. Should have 45 for next year and every one of them is home...

    Cut Above aka fat butt

He looked great at Nichols last spring, I came home with some straws but did not end up using him just yet. Have plans for him this year with some high percentage simm 2nd and 3rd calvers and maybe using him on some sunseeker and who 3rd calvers. Not sure if he will clean up fronts or not. I was...

Another to check out is English Shepherd. I was looking for an aussie and came across someone who had some english shepherds and I bought one. They are one of the oldest breeds and are called the farmers right hand man. They gaurd, herd, hunt, and lay by your side. They are supposed to be great...

    sunseeker cows

I have 2 right now that will be having there 2nd calf in march. As 1st calf heifers last year I thought they did pretty well, took real good care of their calves. As for their makeup they are very different. One I have is out of a soggy simangus cow and she a really thick stout made cow. The...

    Stands Alone

I saw him last spring at Nichols in ankeny. I did not care for him. He has power but am interested in seeing calves first, he was one of the smaller framed bulls there. If you have big cows he might be perfect but most of mine are moderate framed already and dont want to downsize. He might not...

    Opinions on this bull

Looking at the bull and calves looks like you should save some cash on AI this year and let him take care of a few more cows. Gelbviehs might not be the number 1 choice for showing but I would take a feedlot full of calves like those and I don't think I could go wrong.

    "Good" Angus Bulls

Final Answer would be my first pick. One of his sons Pendalton I hear is throwing better calves but does not look as good himself. One of the best purebred angus bulls I have seen mature in person was Aberdeen. He is big and stout. He was right next to sunseeker when I saw him and he looked...

    Clubby bull for angus cows

Sunseeker all the way....front ends you have to watch but if the cow has a decent front end I would go for it. I don't think i have been disappointed with any sunseekers I have had. And I have 2 sunseekers that will be having their 2nd calves this year. Last year they had great calves out of my...

Flying B Cut Above "Fat Butt"

I saw fatt butt this spring at nichols and I think he is prob the best purebred bull i have ever seen in person. He looks like a tank and moves good. I picked up some straws that day and have not figured out what I want to try him on yet. Im thinking some of my young clubby cows but didnt want...

    clubby bull to improve disposition?

Sunseeker would be my vote. Had many great ones out of angus cows and other breeds. All of them have been quite. Just tied up 2 last sun and was leading them the same day. Also have never kicked once with a blower, stick, or combing legs.

baby calf walking on first joint

First off does the calf have a high BW like 90+ lbs. If so I have seen this in about every breed out there. High BW calves joints are sometimes underdeveloped and they just dont have the strength to stand on their hooves. Also with bigger BW calves there is a lot more strain on them during birth...

Calves Out of These Bulls... Please Give Opinions...

Well I have had sunseekers and my turns. I have been using sunseeker for 3-4 years and every calf has had great hair from start to finish.  The best dispositions I have ever seen (all of my cows have ok to good dispositions themselves). Calves are broke after 2-3 days really well also eat like...
