Clubby genetics for the beef industry?

Numbers and B-dates within the purebred business are messed with daily.  They don't always tell the story either.  We have had purebred cattle with a huge defect and were threatened for slander form the association.  We even had pictures, the calves were at the State college, the vet who pulled...

Clubby genetics for the beef industry?

I beg to differ with you.  We  sell and raise the club calves and have retained and feed out the remaining steers and heifers, they go to kill in April and may and are yeilding 64-65%.  So if you do your homework and work at it it can be done (clapping)

    CANADIANS!

From South Dakota, we run about 250 cows, play in the club calves.  We have shorthorns, Simmi, maine, andgus and now a few Char that our daughter has decided she like to show.  We try to keep the females of a simmixangus base and then breed club calves as not to lose the maternal value and then...

    Roto virus

Did you vet do a fecal sample to be sure it was roto??  It makes me wonder as it doesn't usually come in 2-4 cases a year and most of the time it takes IV's and more to piull through.  We had it a long time ago and now vaccinate our herd every year and don't have any trouble.

Question about running cattle and horses together

WE do it all the time and have never had a problem in 23 years of marriage.  It is easier to keep me happy that way.  But prefer to keep them seperate.

    Simmental for show heifers

We bought a Dream on son and are just getting babies this year, we are really happy with them.  the maximus are calving now as 2's, they are milking good and seem to be easy keeper, we only ever kept one Macho, he was the biggest dissappiontment on our place, but I know of several that had good...

    experiences w/ c-sections?

Yes, I think timing is everything.  We have experienced taking one out the side and having things alive is much better for us then trying to pull one just to save money.  In the end a zipper is much more profitable for us.  We just had our first one this year yesterday and everyone is doing great.

    experiences w/ c-sections?

We usually have at least 3 a year and have great success, they all rebreed and never ahve another problem.  We head to the vet the second we think we need one, too big, postion or what ever the case may be.  We live an hour away and in the last 3 years  we have lost 1 calf out of about 15.

June 07 Heifer Out of SS KABOOM

We do raise show cattle and I have two horn cows were are flushing and have sold numerous steers out of them.  When I refer to cows running out in 1000 acres that is summer.  we check our cattle every 2-3 hours 24/7 when calving.  so don't tell me not to be in the purebred business.  Just...

June 07 Heifer Out of SS KABOOM

Our were all out of purebred cows and I am sure they had something to do with it, however when you breed them to numerous other bulls and dont have 130-140 pund births something is wrong.  We do not run a show cattle string, our cows run out in the pasture 1000 acres in s (pop)ize so lack of...
