    Can't Win for Losing!

Feel free to share your stories, here's mine. I took a new ranch job in Colorado and due to the elevation of 9,000 ft, I left my cows at home (1,000ft) until I was able to research their ability to survive.  Due to our extreme temperature variances right now, I thought it would be better to...

    Remitall Polled Hereford Dispersal

I hate to see them disperse.  I think they probably have one of the greatest herds of all time.  I wish the Latimer family the best of luck in their endeavors.

    Moving to High Elevation

We are at 1,000 ft now so it will be a huge change.  That's why I'm not taking the girls until the weather would level out.  This time of year there is a lot of variances.  My biggest problem is going to be that it's 600 miles to the new job.  If I take the cows (hereford and angus) PAP test...

    Moving to High Elevation

It's official, my fiance' and I have taken a ranch job at 8,800 ft elevation.  Going to leave my flatlander cows behind, and may try to take them next spring after they calve.  Does anybody have any advice for does and don'ts.  Has anybody had any luck taking cows from low elevation to high...

    Crazy Horse!!!

We have been having problems in a couple of our main calving pastures with coyotes bothering the mother cows while they were calving, so we started eradicating them.  I've caught a pack of 6 running around and playing around a 3 yr old cow and while she was trying to calve.  She'd been trying...

    Gotta brag!!!!

(clapping)  Good for her!!  I'm not much of a sewer although lord knows my mother tried!!!  I just didn't have the patience.  However, I think that it's a great thing for young ladies to learn.  Congrats and good luck with the rest of your fair!!!    (clapping)

    Crazy Horse!!!

This is my four year old ranch horse.  Yes, he is rubbing against coyotes hanging in the tree.  We had to take them out of there because he was beating them up.  Had I asked him to go near them otherwise, I'm sure he'd tell me HECK NO!!

    A Blessing

Everything went well.  The kidney is just starting to filter blood a little.  They are going to move him to an outpatient room today or tomorrow.  I talked with him last night and he told me that he hadn't had to pee in 2 1/2 years but it seemed like all he'd done is go to the bathroom that...

    A Blessing

Living in this great country truly is a blessing.  Sure it has its problems, but on this 4th of July, I'm especially thankful.  There are doctors in Omaha, NE right now at 10:30 pm doing a kidney transplant on my father.  Dad is only 50 years old and his kidney's failed two years ago.  Thanks to...

The Angus cows settled down as much as they were going to.  The previous manager was pretty hard on the cows-- they had no faith in people, but are certainly doing better!!  It is possible!!!!!!

Thanks!!  These girls have great attitudes.  Maybe a little too gentle, but make great starter cattle for younger inexperienced showmen as their calves are very quiet too.  They are very forgiving!  I put these girls in with the registered Angus herd to help with disposition.  One of the best...

    my newbie

Just curious, but if you have them on a finishing ration, do you have trouble with too much fat building up in the udder and causing them to milk less??  I've seen it just in commercial heifers that have gotten too fat before calving, and I've darn sure seen it in show cattle.  Just wondering...

    PAP testing

I am considering a new job at 9,000 ft elevation.  I live in KS now and my cows are all flatlanders.  I'm worried that they won't survive there, and I'm wondering if anybody could share any info on brisket disease and testing for it.  How many cows from lower elevation usually can't handle the...
