    Drugs for Hauling/Show Stress

Thank you for commenting and taking my post seriously! I will look into Hydro Lac. I grew up always giving antibiotics before long trips but I certainly would rather not spend the money if it's not necessary. Does anyone else have recommendations on drugs or reasons to not give antibiotics for...

    July/14 pasture pics

Really like the looks of Birdstail G Gus 1W x and Waukaru Melita Rose 7048 x. The cow especially; she's gorgeous!

    Drugs for Hauling/Show Stress

At the end of the month I'll be taking five head to the Canadian Junior Hereford Show in Lindsay, Ontario. The trip will be about 40 hours over three days, with rest stops planned every night where the cattle can get out of the trailer and move around freely. They will then have two full days to...

Will Milk replacer Help My Steer Grow Hair

I think it smells horrible but they don't seem to mind. Glad that Tallcool1 could explain the way it works since I actually had no idea how it worked, I just know that it does. With regular rinsing (2-3 times a week) and fairly minimal daily hair training I've seen a noticeable difference in as...

Opinions on this bull calf- Updated Picture

Yeah, you're right, I appreciate the comment. I'm trying to get better at critiquing leg structure. I can see when it's really bad but if an animal is slightly straight or slightly sickle hocked I tend to look past it. I do think that the last picture makes him look a bit more straight than he...

    How do you haul?

I always used to haul cattle tied but then a friend told me a story about a guy he knew who got in a wreck with a load of horses. The truck & trailer rolled and he couldn't get out to free the horses. Only one horse survived and it was because his halter snapped. The rest were strangled or had...

Opinions on this bull calf- Updated Picture

Thanks for the advice, Knabe. I agree that he looks posty and high rumped; it's my fault for taking a bad picture with him not well set up. While it's not very good, I do think that the picture shows how big bodied he is. I tried to get a picture of him after I let him go but he's on a big...

Opinions on this bull calf- Updated Picture

Here's a blurry cell phone picture of him at 4.5 months old. I was so disappointed, I spent the whole afternoon washing, blowing and clipping him and when it came to picture him he wouldn't stand at all. I don't have a picture pen so an off the halter picture wasn't an option. Gotta love...

Frustrated with Showmanship and Your Showmanship Tips!

I completely agree with this statement. I judged showmanship at a local 4-H show this year and there were two boys in the senior division that were spot on. Animals always set up, good posture, answered my questions well, always in the right spot, etc. But my choice was extremely easy. The boy...

Need Advice: Cow with a swollen hip

I have a two year old with a swollen hip and I don't know what to do about it. I noticed her hip sticking out a little bit a few days ago but thought maybe I was imagining it because just because she's "pasture fat", not "show fat". She's on pasture, walking fine and acting normal. She's really...

Will Milk replacer Help My Steer Grow Hair

I had heard that too. I've tried it before and didn't notice any significant results but I'm sure there are others that have had good results too. I don't know where you are located but I live in Canada where we have a lot fewer hair growth supplements to choose from. I spent a lot of time...

What's the best oral "Calf Calm"? And advice an a steer with an attitude.

I would follow the advice about the melatonin and also give 2 ounces of whiskey by syringe the night before and the morning of the show. That combination worked really well for me.

Opinions on this bull calf- Updated Picture

The last picture is his full sister as at 14 months old. That would be why she's lacking masculinity, testicular development and a crest lol ;) And yes, I am saving the bull as a bull and the heifer as a heifer.

Hereford Bull- Dep Good and Plenty ET

Has anyone seen him in person or seen calves sired by him? His photos are really impressive. I read somewhere that he's hetero polled but I only see polled cattle in his pedigree. Was that a typo? Thanks in advance!

Opinions on Heat Wave Bull Calf

He's a stout guy! Hard to tell because of his markings but he looks to cut up in the flank a bit but I really like how he carries so much muscle into his lower quarter. Edit: Forgot to add that he looks really big topped. Good calf.

Fall PB Angus bull calf opinions

I really like how masculine and hard muscled he is. Maybe a little tight in his heart girth but it could just be the angle that the photo was taken at. Nice bull!

    Growing Hooves

I don't know of anything that would make them grow faster but keeping her on soft ground (avoiding gravel & cement) would prevent her from wearing them away anymore.

    $30,000 Ewe Sold in Reno

Whether she's worth $30,000 or not, I have no idea because I know nothing about sheep but what I do know is that just because one judge don't pick an animal as the champion doesn't mean that it's not still worth every penny to the person who bought it. I'd be careful making comments like that on...
