This is BARE 13B, a bull calf that I'm pretty excited about! Let me know what you think, him and his dam will be going to the Canadian Junior Hereford Bonanza in Lindsay, Ontario in the summer and I hope to show and maybe sell him this fall.

13B is sired by BARE MR YOU TUBE 4Y and out of a WLB Shapley daughter that I bought from Flewelling Cattle Company in 2010.

The heifer is his full sister. She's really now green but I think she'll look good by Bonanza.

Ps. I know that the tag says 5B... Let this be a reminder to be careful which numbers you have in your tattoo gun when you're tattooing!! lol

Is the last picture the same calf as the first? You are saving him for a bull? Maybe the angle of the picture but he seems to be lacking some of the masculine characteristics for his age. I am not a hereford person but would like to see testicular development and start of crest on his neck. How old is he in the last picture?

The last picture is his full sister as at 14 months old. That would be why she's lacking masculinity, testicular development and a crest lol ;) And yes, I am saving the bull as a bull and the heifer as a heifer.

Here's a blurry cell phone picture of him at 4.5 months old. I was so disappointed, I spent the whole afternoon washing, blowing and clipping him and when it came to picture him he wouldn't stand at all. I don't have a picture pen so an off the halter picture wasn't an option. Gotta love stubborn calves!

Photo might be blurry because camera has more light in front than behind.

Also, kneel down a little bit.

Could you have let him loose in the pen he is in?

Have a calf's head tied up like that doesn't help with pics.

He looks a little straight behind which may be making him too high rumped as well for me.

Thanks for the advice, Knabe. I agree that he looks posty and high rumped; it's my fault for taking a bad picture with him not well set up. While it's not very good, I do think that the picture shows how big bodied he is.

I tried to get a picture of him after I let him go but he's on a big pasture and I didn't have time to get anything very good. We'll try get a good picture of him once he's fully halterbroken or I may just wait until our first show at the end of the month.

Obviously you know more about him than me  (angel) but he looks pretty straight in his rear legs all of his pictures.

Yeah, you're right, I appreciate the comment. I'm trying to get better at critiquing leg structure. I can see when it's really bad but if an animal is slightly straight or slightly sickle hocked I tend to look past it. I do think that the last picture makes him look a bit more straight than he actually is; when I have a better picture from the show I'll post it.

I finally got a chance to get a decent picture of him. Here he is slicked out at 5.5 months old. 13B will be for sale this fall. Comments are appreciated.

Larissa, looks like your bull has done what you expected Congratulations.Picture taking is an art just like clipping and the ones that do it well get paid well as they can make an animal look almost perfect. An amateur picture is still the same calf but if not good no one will look or will criticize what they see.I know of cases where the calf was so much different in person that the people thought it was not same calf.Videos are not edited and are better.Photoshopping is a common practice even though no one does it.Good Herefords are hot right now.Anytime you ask for opinions be prepared for criticism.
