    Grizzly

We had two this year on simmy mamas that are usually high 70s low 80s and the calves were 95 and 102. Mamas were on low quality hay and short pasture before calving. So it's a knife for them, and they will not make steers. I think your assessment that he can throw some big ones at birth as well...

What makes a show a great show to attend?

1: Good, honest judge 2: organized, starts on time, people in charge have their ducks in a row 3: laid back, friendly atmosphere I think with a 4-H type show it is good when each class has ribbons all the way down. It's nice for the kids to get some little something even if they didn't win big.

    Selling only one calf

I think Larissa hit the nail on the head. You've got a good heifer that should be able to produce good calves. However, sometimes things just don't go as planned. Sometimes the heifer you think is going to be your weak link brings in the best calf and the great heifer has a runt or dies calving...

    How would you breed her

I'll second JPJ. Calf should come plenty easy and then be marketable. I' m going to advise you to stay away from Grizzly. I've seen a good handful and calved two this year. I don't think he's going to improve your heifer and the two we had were 95 and 102 pounders off cows eating low quality...

    Removing stains.

Quite fitting you posted in purple...lol. We use a purple shampoo for people with gray hair. We get it from a hair supply shop like Sally's. Its the generic brand or something like that. Wash them, scrub it in, let it sit for about 5 min, rinse it out. There are plenty of other purple/blue...

Pictures: My Son's First ever time in the ring Yesterday

Too cute (clapping) Looks like he's off to a fun start with  really nice heifer!

Best put down a Judge has used

We have a heifer that is normally really well accepted, took her to a certain show and she "was not sound enough at all but was a decent PROJECT that MIGHT have a good calf if she was bred to a REALLY GOOD bull."  ::) This is an extremely sound, really complete female. Worst part, she was a...

    Opinions wanted on this heifer!

Some others may be better able to help you, but I would say feed and time will be your friend there. As she gets more condition she will probably drop her flank. Make sure you take the time to grow good hair on her underline and clip her to make her look as straight across the bottom as...

    Farm shots

Really nice group. What's the last heifer? She kind of intrigues me; sure is a soft, cowy little girl!

    Opinions wanted on this heifer!

I think she'll be a good startup heifer for you. (thumbsup) I like her neck extension. She's strong and square across her top and hip.Looks like she's the type that will get better as you go rather than wow you now and dissapoint you in the end. If I could change her, I'd give her a more level...

    opinions on heifer please...new picture

I really like her too! <party> Just an overall nice look with lots of body and a ton of bone. Her coloring  sets her apart too. When was she born?

    Color Question

A dark blue bull out of a solid black bull(PB simmy, no color in the pedigree) and a pretty bright red roan mama would probably throw what out of black simangus cows and char x cows. Cow are and have been solid colored a good many generations. Some have a white face. I know he carries red, but...

Keeping Baby Heifers Looking Fresh On A Long Trip

For us: offload and into a pen at tie outs. Give them water immediately and keep it available through the night. Offer them feed once they have settled down a bit and give them plenty of hay to munch on that night while they are loose in their pen. We also stall our most timid babies in the...

Lookng For calving eaes Simmental Bull??

Jeez, I thought we were the only ones still using him! ;D Best showheifer is bred to him this year. We have had good luck calving heifers to Momentum, Voyager, Grandmaster, and Navigator. Momentum will downsize and  throw tons of guts and soundness. If mama's attractive, he's fine, but he can...

    Jakes Proud Jazz ? Thoughts

We've only used him once, but he gave us a 65 lb bull calf off a first time heifer. She had the calf quickly and he hasn't looked back yet. Fuzzy little calf who looks like he'll make a good steer. I wouldn't hesitate to useJPJ again pretty quickly.
