    universal semen sales

Universal in Great Falls is only a sales/distributor facilitity. The semen they handle is collected elsewhere. I have never ever heard any concerns except for NEEL Swoosh...I think his had to do with his owners trying to stretch the semen because he was collected as a yearling. If you are...

    FULLBLOOD MAINE UPDATE

    Horned Genetics

P = Polling Gene (dominant) p = Horning Gene (recessive) PP = Homo Polled (commonly referred to as smooth polled) Pp = Hetero Polled (meaning, carrying a horn gene, but is polled....or could be scurred)) pp = Homo Horned (thus, yields a horned animals)

    Calf won't suck

Or Dexamehtasone instead of Banamine...same, under the tongue. My experience Dex is more likely to stimulate them, as Banamine is an antiinflammatory drug.

    Embryo implanting in Montana

In my opinion Kathy Creighton-Smith at Milk River Genetics is the only way to go...not sure if she has a recip pool, but GaLor genetics in Broadwater County (Toston? Townsend?) May have a recip pool. I think there is also a woman named Jeanie Reier (sp?) From Belgrade. I think TransOva pulled...

    Living in Montana

Just out of curiousity, why BTW Shelby and Malta? That is a huge spread in distance and far from any 'real' amenities. Have is OK, but good Lord it's cold up there. Do you know how to flood irrigate? The Milk River area near Havre(pronounced have-er might be a good bet and not like Bret Favre)...

    Implanting embryos

When I learned to AI, I was taught that if you had semen with any age on it ( and really it wasn't that bad of a habit for EVRY unit) to just kind of flick the straw, not with your hand, but with a flick if the wrist, to shake the 'nitrogen frost' out of the straw for exactly that reasons. Just...

    Opinions on Flushing Heifers?

My recommendation is to talk to an experienced embryologist.  Phone Kathy Kreighton-Smith at Milk River Genetics in Montana.  she would likely be willing to visit with you.  she has been at it for quite some time...406-949-2505/406-357-2504

buying show cattle with the promise of registration papers to come

Once, when trying to build a program, I made a deal for a herd sire and 4 sons. The sons were supposed to be sound and 'ready to go'. I told the guy from Kentucky I was going to use them on 100 head. He assured me they were good size for a yearling and could do the job. When they arrived, the...

    full blood maine bulls

Pedigree wise...I can't really cast an opinion on Noonan. (CRL) High Voltage...I have had experience with one really, really good fullblood granddaughter of his, but her dam may have been equally influential to her quality.  Diagnostic ... I know someone who jumped out of their skin when they...

    Daines Icon

He was homo solid black, may have been homo polled. The bullsni saw sired by him had relatively high birth weights, conformation that appeared they would be more difficult calving than easy and they had the absolutely ugliest heads I have ever seen on a marketed bull. I was sorely disappointed...

    Halls Legacy Plus

I would have to say the result of using Legacy Plus depends entirely on the cow based on one example I saw. I saw a LP son must have 3 or 4 years old in a proven reputation herd and he was absolutely garbage...frame 7 at a minimum, hard doing like a race horse and a gross head and disgusting...

Surgical castration after crimping need advice!!

I agree with the handed related comments. Pre-vac with a something that carries a tetnus toxoid, like a week to ten days ahead of time. Then again another dose when you band him. Then cut the sack off 3-4 days later, administering penicillin either at banding time, sack removal time, or both...

    flush suggestions for maine cow

Lee Severson raised a bull named M-80 ...could be 3xH...he's out of a polled solid black Marketman halfblood by I-80.  Two to three substantial things may be there that the breed doesn't have a plethera of, milk, calving ease and performance all in one package. May be a decent possibility.

    Cocacola pic&info?

I pm'd you. With only 5units left, I would defnitely only flush with it. Coca Cola crosses well on Cunia, Iabon, Dada and pretty much any Novino bloodlines, Signature and maybe Epinal foundation.

    Cocacola pic&info?

not sure who led you to believe Coca Cola was a "stouter type fullblood".  The semen would be worth getting.  IMHO I would only ever flush with any you get your hands on.  I sold 10 units to a guy and he blew through it like nothing and phone me up looking for more not long after.  For the love...
