We were at a show early this spring and needed a 4th member for our senior judging team.  Our senior member of the team had a friend with him.  Poor kid had never judged cattle in his life.  I told him, "You want a pretty looking heifer but not like you think of girls as pretty.  Think big buts...

Long story short on the Walter G. Mize article......the association and the Mize Ranch came to an agreement out of court.  Name stays American Chianina Association and the Mize Ranch got a bunch of free publicity in the breed mag.  Unbelieveably, it was a very heated discussion at the time...

My hubby usually comes in and asks if I've gotten all of his stuff packed.  I just have to think, "Um, if I didn't who would've, the packing fairy?"  (lol)  Have a great time at the Expo. Melinda

The Judging 101 site is what I had seen before.  We're in MO and working with kids that range from 9 to 16.  Main focus would be on kids 12 to 14 though.  I know the kids need to work on doing reasons, but they also need some help on all areas.  Thanks for the help.

We were entered at a show today but decided to stay home and take care of the babies we have.  Too nasty where that show is anyway when it's windy like this.  Boys heard it was 8 degrees there with windchill this morning.  Just not worth the effort today.  8) BSC

We're in central MO and it's been a few days of high winds now and I think I've had enough.  ;)  Heard last night that warmer temps are on their way.  Looking forward to that again.  I guess the good thing about the wind is that it's drying up some of the mud.  (clapping) BSC

Here's a couple of calves we had this week (one of our colder weeks of the year).  The brown calf is a curious little turkey.  The black one is a Carnac out of a Chiangus cow.  Thinking we may keep him back as a replacement bull.  We have a nice little Cowboy Up bull that we'll probably steer...

Well, he can stand now at least.  I guess that's progress.  Still really weak but we tubed him again at noon today with another dose of Colostrum and electrolytes to get him going.  Will switch to milk replacer this evening and keep plenty going into him.  I'm just thankful momma's being so...

How twisted are we?  When our boys were little we had a pen in the barn for them stocked with toys to play in while we took care of whatever we needed to.  They saw more calves birthed by the time they were 4 than most people see in their lifetimes.  :o  We do checks every 3 to 4 hours around...

We have one of these lovely big dumb male calves.  Had to pull him last night, tubed him with colostrum and electrolytes, kept the heater on him for about 5 hours to warm him.  He apparently got up in the night and walked to the other side of the pen.  Won't stand to suck.  Going to town for...
