Online Auctions - "The Fine Print"

I think you're trying to hard.  Even if you do it that way, there's nothing stopping someone from getting someone else, or even making themself another "bidder" and running the bid up that way.  Just promise you'll run your auction as fairly as possible and I would be happy with that.  Would I...

Online Auctions - "The Fine Print"

My hats off to those of you who can set your ceiling and never deviate from it.  Guess I'm guilty of getting a little too caught up and will usually go a bid or two over my limit. lol I would like to say that it's easy to let our imaginations run away with us when it comes to auctions.  I'm...

CC Bull whose daughters have nice udders

Thanks for your recommendations everyone!  I'll be checking these bulls out.  And I will definately be having this cow DNA'd AND check to see if she's a carrier before I flush her.

Bulls to make steers in pb chars

Quick fire, just curious as to why you want to stay away from Eye Candy?  I've used him heavily for several years now with great results.

Bulls to make steers in pb chars

STX108, he is.  I've been RMB Cattle Co. for years, but Chris posted two calves being from Houska Show Cattle.  RMB (our sons) are no longer involved in the operation, so Houska Cattle Co would be more fitting anyway.  lol  Maybe it's time for a change?

Online Auctions - "The Fine Print"

I think how you like an auction run depends on if you are a seller or a buyer.  I find those "reserve not met" frustrating and usually quit bidding before I normally would.  ( or do I?  lol )  I do think it's annoying, I much prefer to bid against "someone".  I don't think the phantom bidders on...

CC Bull whose daughters have nice udders

CAB, I guess I should've mentioned I believe this female is a Heat Wave, although I haven't had her DNA confirmed.  Her mother had a nice udder, and the other Heat Wave that I kept also has a very nice udder.  Who knows why hers went so terribly bad. Goodnight, that's a very valid question, and...

    Two embryos per recipient cow?

I definately vote 1 embryo/recip.  We raised Charolais for many years, and they have lots of twins, our record was 9 sets one calving season.  Most were born alive, but the extra work of making sure both were claimed and got enough to eat was a lot of extra work.  More often than not, we'd pull...

CC Bull whose daughters have nice udders

I have a cow that has a terrible udder, huge teats,  just plain ugly!  I'm tired of messing with it every time she calves, so I'm going to flush her.  Any suggestions on a clubby bull that throws really nice uddered females?  How are Eye Candy daughters as far as milk and udders?

I've been extremely pleased with Eye Candy on high percentage Charolais... or anything else for that matter.  :)

    TH & PHA Testing

Thank you everyone!  It's good to see that there is now more than one place to get this testing done, last time I'd checked, it was all done at one place.  Does testing cost the same at these labs?  And I guess my next question is will/can they confirm parentage?  I have a couple I'd like to...

    TH & PHA Testing

I know this subject used to be on here all the time, but tonight, I'm too tired to look for it.  Could someone please share the information, or point me in the right direction to the forms and place to send the blood samples?  The purple top tubes I remember.  Thanks! <deadhorse>

Pros and cons of using dairy cows to use for carrying embyos

We used holsteins and couldn't say if they'd ever been in a dairy or not.  I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

Pros and cons of using dairy cows to use for carrying embyos

Never had any problems doing it other than the fact that one dairy cow gives enough milk to raise multipul calves.  Never had problems with them being mothers, just had problems with udders.  If I did it again, I'd let each cow raise several calves.  I'm not buying the mothering ability has...

    Selling only one calf

After reading the post again by the light of day, I agree.  I guess the part that threw me was  " But we are only selling this one calf and I would like to sell her online " .  The reference to "her"... guess they're planning on a heifer calf.  :)

    Simmental Breeding Questions!!

I really like your cow,  I'd take cows like her anytime.  My vote would be  for breeding her to Steel Force.  I see Griswolds will be selling 500 straws on Sat.  and it says no more will be sold until next years sale and the Frozen Gold sale.  The Steel Force heifers in their sale catalog are...
