    Engorged cow-what to do?

Sounds good.  Let us know how they do!  Any pictures of them?

Video: Cattle Show! Was Sullivans Supply at this show? LOL

If he switches over to dairy showing he'd be right at home in his white coat!  The Highlands are thicker than the ones I've seen in the States.

    Engorged cow-what to do?

Is the calf actually getting milk?  I'd bring the cow in, put her in the chute and be sure milk is freely 'able' to flow from each treat.  Also, take a day or so to carefully watch the calf to see if it's "pooping" normally - as in no scours.  I had BueLingo cows that I bred to my Lowline bull...

Why do people put boots on fences?

I like the idea!  Could it extend through Wyoming as a sequel if there's anyone left?

Why do people put boots on fences?

Agreed. I don't think the author of that post has ever lived in Cowboy country!  Hard to think of the boots as a symbol of a drug deal location when there aren't any people around for 100's of square miles.  Dang, you'd REALLY have to want to make a deal to go out that far!  And, the rancher'd...

Why do people put boots on fences?

Well, maybe in some areas, but the tradition has been ongoing since "frontier days" before most cowboy boots had laces.  I'd go along with the 'souls going to heaven' and for the practical use of keeping water out of the tops of the posts.

    IVF on a virigin female

From "Cowboy":  <<Hi Dori -- yup -- I do agree. As Isaid many times, I am pretty much old school for reproduction, it has served me very well for many years, and as the old saying goes -- "If it ain't broke, I don't plan on fixing it" .>> Hey, Terry, I'm "old school" enough that when I was...

    teat end emergency

Like the others said, you won't be able to keep a dressing on it so just do your best to keep it clean.  If it leaks long enough without being stimulated with a nursing calf, that quarter may dry up and if the teat canal scars over and inside, you may actually lose that quarter to production. ...

    IVF on a virigin female

......not to mention, Terry, that this <<BUT, you still have to use vaginal puncture to get to the ovary -- as it is inside of the protective Peritineum. This alone will most deffinately over time creat at least some scar tissue, and will not be a plus on her future fertility.>>  doesn't sound a...

    My new friend

Congrats on the new pup!  He sure shows his German Shepherd side, doesn't he!  And, yes, I agree - he's going to be a big boy.  I admire your "courage" in getting a new pup so soon. I lost this little buddy about 3 yrs ago and still can't bring myself to own another Westie.  He was one special...

    Report on semen sales

I think it may have more to do with the fact that dairy bulls can be "tricky" to keep around - like they don't work and play well with others!

    Photographers?

I'm not sure whether or not you're stuck on one of the big names or not, but Quinton Keeran, right here on SP, is getting going as a pretty darn good photographer.  He bases out of Ohio, I believe, but probably would travel and do a great job for you.  Q, are you listening?

Yellow / Green Puss coming out of cows neck

I see on the map on your profile that you're from OK.  What kind of toxic/irritating weeds do you have down there?  Sounds like that's a possibility especially due to the location of sores around her jaws.  Keep the sores/holes clean so the flies don't get in there.  I can't remember the name of...

    Eastern Wyoming--anybody out there??

I'm not "from" there, but have been there many, many times doing cattle biz when I lived in WY.  What do you want to know?

Yellow / Green Puss coming out of cows neck

Sounds like she has an abscess that has broken through the skin and is draining.  "Colorful" thick discharge indicates infection.  If you don't want to get a Vet out right away, shave up the area, thoroughly wash it up, try to determine if there's still "stuff" yet to come out.  It may need to...

    Fat

Sorry for this one, it's Monday......but does anyone else see the humor in the topic here, "Fat", and the SP handle of "Pop Tart"?  Like I said, it's Monday morning!!!

    Farm for Sale

Some of you already know that I've put my small farm in Michigan on the market. Its location and amenities make it a perfect choice for a show steer/heifer operation.  Go to www.genesislivestock.com/Michiganfarm4sale.htm for details. Dori
