    Problem

We had a calf born a couple year ago that seemed to have dislocated its hip at birth. She turned out just fine and is expecting her first calf next spring. Hope all goes well with your calf. DLZ

Long labor w/happy out come *Pics

[  Now, I realize you couldn't get help, but do you, and others on the Planet, have a calf puller/comealong and/or at least obstetrical chains?  Would you try to get this calf out yourselves or would you wait it out knowing that the outcome might not be so good?  Personally, I'd have had my arm...

    Meet the Press

I sure wish Colin Powell could have been persuaded to run himself but I think that he has too much integrity to involve himself with all the shenanigans that are involved in running for a major political office these days. I sure do not like Obama"s social agenda's but some of the criticisms the...

    What do you say?

Dinner / Supper debate;  It was explained to me that when the US was more of an agricultural based work force that the biggest meal of the day was at noon. That is when they had the meat and potatoes meal and had a lighter meal in the evening. Later as the work force moved to more off the...

    What do you say?

I grew up with the noon meal called "dinner" and the evening meal called "supper". I think most people call noon meal "lunch" and evening meal 'dinner" DLZ

GAS $2.33 Can you believe it

$2.88 yesterday up here in MI. It amazes me that prices seem so different in different parts of the country. It would seem that the father North you went, prices would be higher and they would be cheaper in the south gulf coast area where all the refineries are but that seems not to be the case...

I was wondering who has kids.

We have a 19yr old daughter and a 17 yr old son. Also have 22 yr old niece we raised since she was 5 and had another niece from age 2 until 12. Youngest niece has a 5 month old boy so that make us grandparents in weird kind or way. Had three in diapers at one time. Two of the girls were 6...

Where will you move to if...... (not cattle related)

Well, I do not think that our great nation will go in the tank if Obama gets elected or will soar if McCain gets elected or vise versa. The strength of this country is in the hands of the common folk, the middle class, the heartland, the people that live on main street, or however you want to...

Calf sales, low prices, no buyers

We consigned two steers and a heifer to a sale this past Saturday. These are mostly county fair type calves, Nothing top dollar but good set of calves. The average prices for steers were off about $300 from previous years. A lot of calves that were pretty decent, weaned, all shots, broke to lead...

    This week in football

Any Big ten fans out there? our Spartans are looking pretty good so far if the defense can hold things together. Javon Ringer missed his third 200 yard game in a row by 2 yards this week. MSU has a habit of starting strong and then seem to colapse in the meat of the Big Ten schedule, so I hope...

Tell me what you think of my steer please

He looks somewhat light muscled in his rear 1/3 to me. Need to be deeper in his lower rear 1/4 and more square in his hip to be better but is a nice looking "showy" type that will probably just improve with time. Keep up the nice work DLZ

    Don't get mad ...

What is you all's definition of a "show calf"? Is it a calf that is shown or a calf that can win a ribbion at a show? In my opinion any calf can be a show calf if someone wants to make the effort to work with them and show them. Winning caliber show calves are a different matter. Yes , I agree...

The inside of a slaughter house

We have a steer or two and a pig or two butchered on the farm each year. A guy comes over with a truck and does it all here. My two teenage girls watched a couple years ago and were fascinated by the whole thing. The guy was very informative and explained things as he went along. I think they...
