since I took another fall this morning I didn't make it to church. I am currently watching Meet the Press. General Colin Powell has officially put his support behind Senator Obama.
Do you think this will change some people minds?

Also Gov Palin was hilarious on SNL. It's amazing how much Tina Fay looks like her.

I don't know if it will change minds or not.    What it did change for me is that I've lost some respect for Colin Powell.  I wonder what kind of deal the Obama campaign is offering...

what bothered me was the Powell was saying that the Republicans were moving more to the right. That was my problem before, they were more in the middle than the right. Being one of those dreaded  right wing conservatives I say great.

I do know that a sister in law & her hubby (big farmers) are supporting Obama based on McCain's lack of support for ethanol. It confuses me when pro life people go against their beliefs. Hubby said "well how can a president influence the abortion issue?" I reminded him that the president picks supreme court judges that make the laws.

Enough I'll get off my soap box. The hit on my head must have gotten me in one of those moods. Maybe I should just go & kick the cat.

I know what you mean.  McCain is pretty close to the center & Obama is so far to the left, he is off the chart.  The lack of support on ethanol is bothersome but frankly that is more likely controlled in the senate & house.    I can live with that, what I have problems with is Obama's tax plans & his health care plans, etc.  It is very likely that the next president will appoint at least one supreme court judge.

I don't think ethanol is bad, its just not the end all, best thing since sliced bread, product that they wanted it to be.

I sure wish Colin Powell could have been persuaded to run himself but I think that he has too much integrity to involve himself with all the shenanigans that are involved in running for a major political office these days. I sure do not like Obama"s social agenda's but some of the criticisms the Powell made about the republicans made a lot of sense to me.

The problem with ethanol is that it takes 20% of our country's corn to make less than 5% of energy. So even if we use 100% of our corn product, we will only be decreasing our energy supply by less than 20%. Besides, anyone that feeds cattle hopes that (or something similar) will not happen. McCain realizes this and knows we have to focus on Nuclear power, clean coal, and drill on US soil- all of which Obama (and Biden for that matter) oppose. When I was working with the Huckabee campaign, he always talked about a combination of using all forms of energy. Theres going to have to be a transition period, and I haven't heard Obama speak of that. You can just go from foreign oil straight to us making enough of our own energy.

Let's also realize that they were talking about energy independence 50+ years ago during presidential campaigns. It sounds good, but it never happens. And, quite honestly, even IF McCain wins, we are still looking at a Congress CONTROLLED by democrats. Chances are they won't argee on anything.

I'm probably wrong, but I think "shenanigans" is exactly what he's taking part in now. There's a reason why he waited until just over 2 weeks to endorse Obama and pull this. Anyone else think that Powell and the republican base are at odds? Or, maybe his retirement isn't going well and he wants his job back?

colin powell was wrong on wmd and if russia used their trucks to remove them to syria, as he didn't do enough due diligence for evidence allowed to be brought to surface and allowed himself to be made a fool.

i'm thinking history is repeating itself.

i blew off colin powell after that first mistake.  the powell doctrine, what a crock, it was the eisenhower/maccarther doctrine, of overwhelming force.

What bothers me the absolute most about an Obama presidency is that the Senate and the House will be majority Democrat with possibly a large enough majority to override any Filibuster and then you will also have a Democrat as President to rubber stamp all their socialist policies.  There will be no checks and balances.

It will be a wild ride with the middle class paying the bill as usual.  The rich will just move their money out of the country.

Obama needs to define what he considers rich.  And is that Gross or Net income?  I personally dont wish to give to those that choose not to work to better themselves from my hard earned income.  And trust me it is harder and harder to earn that income.

Whatever you think of Powell, I don't think anyone can legitimately say that Powell has ever done anything he didn't think was in the best interest of this country's security.  He's not an economics guy, but he was one heck of a general and I think a very good Secretary of State.  The fact that he basically quit put him in line with some of my personal friends and first cousins who were fairly senior officers in Iraq at the same time (Majors, Lt Cols, and Cols) and some of the things they told me they disliked about the Bush administration when they got back.  And these friends and relatives are "good conservative Texas boys" (and one girl) who didn't like what the Bush admin was not doing in Iraq.  So, I hold Powell in high esteem.

I have a hard time getting over Obama's upbringing and his name for obvious reasons.  But, Powell knows the man if he had a single concern about it, he would have never endorsed him.  So, that makes me feel a lot better about the man who is about to win this thing.  I won't vote for him, but maybe it'll work out ok.

Why aren't people concerned about the majority rule of democrats in the House, Senate and the Presidency?  I personally don't care for Obama but even if I were leaning toward him I would be concerned about the unlimited spending that he seems to be a proponent of.  Government is handing out money like candy for kids at Halloween.  At some point it has to stop and the government must become fiscally responsible.  My fear is that instead of reining in spending the Obama government will tax tax tax to pay for socialized medicine among his many other proposed programs.

I will tell you that consumer confidence has been rocked by all the bad ecomonic news and in the past month have quit spending.  Everyone is pulling in their horns and waiting to see what happens consequently it has become a self fullfilling prophesy.  One major fortune 500 company in our town that was running at full capacity two months ago has now gone to four day weeks.  Orders have completely dried up. And my traffic in my store is down. And continues to slump more each week.

both parties overreach.  obama, pelosi, reid will overreach.  this is a good thing as it's basically the only way to get rid of them, as they are now the oligarchy.

The one thing that bothers me most about McCain is I think his proposed tax cuts are just trying to buy votes.  We need to get our spending cut way down, but the Government can't do with less income either.  We need to whack that deficit way down to ever fix the economy.  Honestly, Obama might have a hard time outspending Bush.  Can't believe I said that.
