I have a Vermeer 605k that works well for hay or stalks for the numbers you talk about.  Net wrap is much better than twine making the baler worth more.  Baler guy always recommends M's especially when doing stalks, but I can't justify the $$.

I think that it is normal for them to shed the hair.  The question is what are you doing for a rinse, blow, comb routine to get it back?  The breed is not known for tons of hair so you may need a little extra work.  If you post your current routine, maybe a couple people could show you how to...

I have had a couple of older calves "robbing" millk from some of the other cows that haven't calved.  Could that be part of it?

Mine have been mostly late, after the first one 38 days early.  From a couple of days to 14 days late so far.  I did a cow check yesterday then went to the accountant.  Came home to find a dead roan sue 863 x tuscaloosa heifer from an embryo bought from Bob Duis.  Not big, looked nice, just dead...
