    Early '09 calves

OHB-  FG Miss Vixen is the cow we raised that won Denver in 2007. She is a Vortec out of a double clean Double down cow.           The Velvet cow actually decends from the Blossom cow family and picks up her name from her paternal grand dam. Her sire is AKF Monopoly and her reg name is DFS...

What are your indulgences? Besides cattle!

Just finished dinner with 2 other planet members (K-State Katy, and Davis Shorthorns). Cooked up on the grill, I had to shoot without them as they got here after dark but grill food is good food. I have a severe addiction to grilling, I will put anything on charcol. We will look at cattle in the...

What are your indulgences? Besides cattle!

My bow target is set 20 yards from the grill so you tell me my two favorites.

    Early '09 calves

The last calf is about a month older than the others. The other calves were born from 2-9 to 2-13. I wish we could get a rain to freshen them up. All of the cattle are full of dust (just like my eyes and lungs).

Which One Would You Choose? Part II.

I can tell you this, not trying to brag or anything, Tommy Boy has gone up against Gus and beat him. Once in a while I think folks need to be open minded and step outside of the box. You never know what type of potential a bull has unless you try it. It's great to go with the proven ones too but...

Jakes Proud Jazz X 10 Queens calf

Looks great Lynn! Is his dam TH free? I was always a pretty big Centuian fan but the TH status was a huge blow to him. This guy looks like a stud and I wouldn't be suprised if he gets a little spoiled around your place. ;)

    Creep Feed Ration

I guess that a calfs gut can start to process feed at about 8 weeks but they will start to like it sooner. For what my non-scientific guess is I put out feed at about 6 weeks of age to get them to like it and used to the feeder. My prferance is to start with Omolene and the transition to a creep...

    What to breed her to?

After Gus had his first calf crop we bred all but one of our yearling heifers to him. As well he is looking like our goto bull for having an easy/high quality calves out of our donors. I like to take it easy on those cows due to the fact that their repro tract is our goldmine! I will not promise...

    JIT's Sale

I would like to give Grant my best wishes wishes for the Frozen in Time auction. He is a fellow who isn't afraid to give all of us his opinion and help in many areas and I hope that this sale is a great success. From looking at the line-up it sure looks like it will be a great offering as well...

    A lot of you asked

We have decide to price it at 100 per unit. These straws are the 2.1 mil. concentration breeding straws. We have used them successfully on flushes by using 3 units at 12 hours and 2 at 24 hours. We are putting up a few 5 mil. straws and if anyone is interested we would need a commitment by mid...

    What to breed her to?

I am unsure of his CE but I would think that Manchild might work well. However if you want a shorthorplus calf.......

    A lot of you asked

Many of you have asked me what Guses mother looks like so I am finally getting around to posting a picture. She is, in my mind a very classic looking shorthorn cow. Twig and I decided that Alta Cedar First Blood 5R would be a good choice for a flush since she seems to click with Canadian...

Oakbar heifers at Sioux Falls---didn't place well but we like 'em anyway

From the pictures I think that it might work pretty good. If nothing else maybe a white bull could put some roan back to her. If you aren't careful your little herd is going to be a pain in the rear, It's a big responsibility having that many really good ones around!
