I agree with Doc. Very good ration. Tweak if you like which I think most people would tweak it some to use the readily available feed ingredients in your own area. The last time that I figured out the cost of my own version of AAOK's ration it was costing me $196.20 per ton.

AAOK's ration X 3!  Have used it for both steers and heifers with slight modification depending on the animal.

Umbarger is a great feed and has a variety of rations to choose from depending on what you need. I also feed alot of Rowe Nutrition to my heifers.

Purina Honor Show.

Full Range or Fitters Edge.

Period. Point Blank...
This feed is fantastic there is no arguing that but the only problem is that you are right back to what they were trying to get away from, expensive feed cost. What do those feeds cost per ton?

I like the Purina supplements but I believe other companies have surpassed Purina for show feeds

Being very new to raising cattle, I am just beginning to “Finish” my first steer, and found the AAOK recipe. It says “Topdressing” , can someone please explain

That just means adding something extra for that animal at each feeding; not mixing it into your entire ration.  If you need help finishing one, you can't go wrong adding Stabilized Rice Bran.  You can buy it at Tractor Supply - it's a horse fat supplement.  It puts a nice smooth finish one a steer fairly quickly.  Start slow; 1/4 lb per feeding and increase slowly over a couple of days.  Never had one need more than 1 1/2 - 2 lbs a feeding.
