I think he wins it easily.  The only horse I seen even having a chance is Casino Drive.

Well...uhm...looks like our boy couldn't pull it out.  D'esormeaux (sp) did the right thing in backing him off though....

Really makes a person do a lot of wondering... ???.  Perhaps a few people did everything they could to make sure he didnt win it.  Many people might hate his trainer/owner/whatever.  Who knows what went on.  It would also be quite interesting if it WAS the steriod shot that prevented the win.  All he-l-l will break loose if that is the case.  Perhaps he will "accidentally" get a bad case of colic and have to be put down because he wasnt the hero that he turned out to be.  I am sure going to try to watch more TSN tonight to see if more happened.  It is so difficult to tell with the amount of money and politics now involved in horse racing.

I hate to say I told all you people he wouldn't win......but "I TOLD YOU GUYS HE WOULDN"T WIN"!!!!!  :p

First off, odds were against him, second, his trainer isn't what I would call "first class", and well, with his feet (a genetic defect that runs on his sire side) it was all but wrote in the books.

Was it an injury? Bleeding? Foul play? I doubt foul play...those horses are watched 24/7/365. Bleeding is a possibility. Or maybe, just maybe, it was too hot, too fast, and the horse just didn't get it done. He had a perfect trip up until his jockey pulled him up (which might as well, he was at least 4th maybe 5th when he got pulled).  Will I be surprised if he is dead in a month? Nope...he is, after all, like all other animals....twice as valuable dead as he ever was alive.

I sure am glad I went with my ol' stand-by Zito.....bet both horses he had trained for $10 each to win.....guess that 38-1 Da Tara gonna get me either a ton of feed, or a very fun trip to the Sullivans truck at the next show!!!! (clapping)

This is kind of what I said.  They will find out what went wrong with him, and then put him down with the excuss that he "had a heart condition/twisted gut/poor lungs".  If they find out that it was nothing physically that prevented him from winning, he will once again become a "regular" horse.  Nobody will think of him as a hero or ledgend, because he just couldnt win the triple crown.  They will then question the owners/trainers as to why he did so good in the first two races, and then totally shut down in the third race.

I have a few questions....Can a horse only basically "qualify" for the triple crown once in their life?  In otherwords, can they only race the Kentucky Derby/Preakness once??  Is Big Brown a stallion or gelding?  How common is it for them to geld racehorses?  Do they seldom do it in hopes of creating the next Great Sire?

Horses can only run in the Triple Crown races when they are 3 year olds. So he's done from that standpoint.  I also think he's done racing for good.  They can expalin away a bad performance--especially with his hoof problems over the last couple weeks--but they would really kill his stud value if he were to run and lose again.  As it is, he's a Derby and Preakness winner --very few horses can say that--and should still be quite valuable at stud.  I'm not an expert at Thoroughbred blood lines, but I don't think his pedigree is exactly a star studded one, however.  When a really good/great horse has such an off day there usually is an underlying problem that may not be apparent immediately following a race.  I wouldn't be surprised if they do find something was actually wrong or perhaps like all athletes he just had an off day.  Even Man O War was beaten once--by a horse named Upset!!

Someone on here said that he'll be a mare producer.    I still think he was/is a great horse.  Think back to the way he won the Preakness.

it made me want to puke, i didn't even want to watch espn when it was over.    you have to wonder if the steroids being quit in april had anything to do with anything,      these horses are athletes, he may have not felt well, but yet not bad enough to run a temp, or just didn't have the energy that day, just like people.    it wasn't like he would have gotten last if he wasn't pulled up either, i thought it was wise of the jockey in case something was wrong.    i think the field has gotten so competive over 30 years ago is why the triple crown today is so much tougher,    was watching some of the coverage i believe when seattle slew ran the belmont  there were only about 5 or 6 horses..            just my 2 cents,            still a great horse,  they'll run him again later in the fall.

There's no way they even think about putting him down, they can get 50k per breeding for him right now.

Regarding the comments on his pedigree, there is more than enough demand for a proven, double bred Northern Dancer stud.

They won't put him down. But I think it will be a long time before anybody uses that jocky again. Thats 2 triple crowns he lost. He should have asked him to run lil bit better then he did.

That is interesting.  Its also interesting that the owner of the winner has already taken out 2 potential triple crown winners.  How badly does this owner NOT want a triple crown winner...... ???.

I think he did the right thing pulling him up towards the end.  He wasn't going to be anywhere near the front so there was no need to risk injury when he is known to have foot problems.

You can't blame the winner for trying to win.  Just because it is a triple crown hopeful doesn't mean that people should try to lose.

Also, why are people still voting on the poll?

The Jockey did the correct thing.  Many times if a horse it sore or hurt in one leg it is the other leg that will break down during the race.  I would hate to think that by pushing him on a foot that they knew was sore he broke the opposite leg.  I am also pretty sure that the jockey did exactly as he was told.  If I had bought or sold him for a multi-million dollar price tag I would tell the Jockey ," lister you little sucker, don't be taking any chances on breaking him down or I will twist off your head."  I really thought that Big Brown would be the one to finally win the triple crown, but you alway have to figure in Lady Luck.  When running against those calliber of horse even a small quarter crack makes it almost impossible to win.  So we go back to the thirty year in a row saying, " maybe next year."
