I agree. SP gets more like the old BW every day. It's sad.  :(

I tend to stay on the sidelines on these judge discussions because, for the most part, they are pointless. After re-reading the posts on this subject I didn't find a whole lot of bashing Mr. McCurry's judging abilities--in fact most people who have seen him judge think he does a fine job. (By the way, I've seen him judge several times and thought he did a good job each time.) I'm not sure this thread needs to be locked because of "bashing".... My question when reading "judge opinion" posts is: "are you going to stay away from a show based on someones opinion posted on the internet--often by someone you've never met, or are you going to take your stock to the show and see what happens??" After showing cattle for 35 years, my suggestion is to take your best, well prepared livestock to the show and see what happens...Good Luck!!

Why all the fuss and fuming over someone stating an opinion????  Judging a show is like officiating a football game,  someone has to do it and not everyone is happy with your opinions. [ And yes I do both].  Over time judges have either rose to the occassion and done a pretty fair job or done a p*** poor job as grandad would say and kind of drifted away from judging.  The ones that either think their opinions will revolutionize the beef industry or go out for a payback to somebody,  either in a good way or to really work someone over should never be ask to sort 2 cows at the local sale barn.  But seems they always pop up again,  usually through a connection at a breed registry,  or being on good terms with show management.  Just look at entries this past fall,  the lesser respected judges did not have much to work with number wise.
Would not think of bashing some judge on here,  that's chicken s*** ,  quoting grandad again,  you catch him in a quiet place and tell the expert to his face you didn't care for his  expert thoughts.  You would be surprised how much more serious he gets the next time. <beer>

yup, or recites that class back to you verbatum and why they did what.

if i remember correctly, didn't 224x stand third in her class at a show?  sometimes, show placing just doesn't mean what everyone wants it to mean.

Seems like whenever anyone asks about a judge on this board, someone has to reply with (not necessarily in these words, but with the same basic idea) that it's a stupid question - why would any judge not choose the best animal?  While I can't dispute choosing the best one, it's far from a stupid question.  Having some idea of a judges preferences matters not just in whether you go or which one you take, it can make a difference in the little things that make all the difference, like where exactly you weigh one in, or maybe in how you clip and fit.

from all the posts regarding judges, i haven't been able to detect any differences in what judges prefer.

True that, knabe.  Not alot of useful info in most of these threads, but every once in awhile it pops up.  If it's someone we expect to be showing under soon, I try to ask more specific questions than what does so and so like.  Likewise I try to provide more specific info if I have it.  Also, I think probably alot of the best exchanges of information end up taking place in pm's, but these threads get 'em started.
