Powerfull is what she looks like-and she could raise a calf that would easily outsell 20 of your calves on the right day-He doesnt have a clue how those cattle live or produce. You've been there and are from that Country-Kris Blacks-Wendall Dunns,Glover, Jett Gardner  etc etc are not pampered gardens of eden Check out Taylors in Oklahoma or Shirleys in far Western Kansas-I dont think the narrow dairy looking ones would survive in those conditions-They sure Didnt at Deertrail  The pictures Ive seen at Ex laxes deal do have some narrow hardoing looking animals indicative of that kind of breeding-Like the cattle looked when I got back in it in 1990 -Ive seen the TOO POWERFULL OR WHATEVER cattle working in the field in Oklahoma and Texas Southern Kansas etc-Even at Ferrers-those cows raise calves on grass just like everybody elses down there And there are some very good milking THICK Shorthorn cows that keep and raise a calf every year -Although dwindling-they bare the same type as that young roan -Shes thick with a powerfull profile and puts it toghether in a unique package  like only a Shorthorn can- and fed for a sale That doesnt mean she wont milk at all-IT DOES mean that she will make TWO of the other types  Id sure like to see some of yours-and throw all kinds of breeding ideas-Wish I could buy one like that Glover roan female in the picture O0

//// You got that right-they have almost disappeared and I dont give a sh$%^&*()T about all the smug purists and their narrow cattle -badmouthing one like her-I had Hill Top -Marq 4 etc cattle somewhat like that and made some real good cows that won some shows out of Old time clubby bulls-Function is as function does Think her calves might be in demand LOL? Even the guys raising the Appearing Horns are going to re create them, the demand for a good one just goes through the roof-Days sale was a good example-he only had 3-and they blew up the place-AND I"m here to tell you-He has good ones-Shorthorns were some of the highest used cattle there were-when they looked like that Because they are the only cattle that put the pieces toghether like that And have allways been unique like that. The only real deal tested for everything on the planet  bull thats got the performance heifer calving ease  and stouts I know of now comes from one of the oldest documented performance herds in the US Dale Allison-Homeplace Farm - Homeplace Hot Commodity-Dale really changed those cattle in one shot with Wildside-A shot like that is what alot of the cattle need He was actually a good calver and changer never getting the credit he deserved-Thats him below at 6 years then AT 12- 13-STILL BREEDING COWS-Most impressive ancient bull IVE EVER SEEN Including ones in IRELAND-Dales Hot Commodity  Bull has a  Wildside dam. Who stopped me dead in my tracks as a calf-AND YES SHE CAN RAISE A CALF-in fact several In fact-there are 3 or  more pacer dams in her pedigree going back 20 plus years AND BRED BY DALE More than any of the cattle Ive seen lately. The only place I can think of would be Toby Jordans cattle Jim Comptons  Fresh Air: hands down- is the highest performing  real world pretty fronted very sound grow bull I ve ever used (WDA FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS?) -Not a bad calver late maturing types but they outgrow everything-Needs a real thick cow for show-use him on any cow for GROW-His few Shorthorn calves out  have won major shows O0

Mark, very nice cow that most people in the industry should want pens full of cows like her.

This is our Daddy’s MoneyxMinnaerts Elanoar cow. Hopefully she will be one of our show prospects for next show season. If she can’t play in a breed show then I give up. Not a great picture but she’s getting better and deeper every day.

Keep rolling with them Canadians -Marked improvement-What are you gonna use to complement them-some kid close by might want to show one some day-Understanding the positive and overall tit tat balance rather than the negative of variety actually creates better ones if you study the animals too -In your case you ought to incorporate something like Dales bull on replacement heifers-Even your numbers might improve on the BW side And Homeplace numbers are as dilligent and accurate as anyones That includes all the big boppers with the smaller framed numbers cattle-And Waukaru-who is at the fore front with performance-Hes sent me real rough pics of his calves at recent weaning and requested I didnt post them-If you saw them-youd see how good that bull is And an enviable spread between BWS and weaning measured in pounds-not a bean count -That bull is really going to get used -maybe more so by word of mouth and used on a growing number of types and breeds And hes almost a complete outcross to yours till you get farther back to the straight Homeplace performance cattle-Which were a little different type than the Byland Paint Valley deals and just grew better in normal conditions The right combo of some of the Kansas OKIE range cattle with a little of the right shots of thick are what will keep them moving in the direction of stout enough even for me and way easier keeping than the majority of Shorthorns in the everyday world. Most people dont want to tackle that -because its like a collision two different ideologies instead of combining the complimentary attributes of somewhat different types to reach more users who are receptive to those types of cattle Think outside the box-balance the attributes and cons-reach a broader audience-Dale did because hes: 1 pretty astute-2 Needed a change-It worked How bout this young bull he has sold?Hes another Hot commodity son-bred  similar to the bull on Cattle Visions -He  could probably go right on a group of heifers HE GOT ANY EYE APPEAL? Along with: impeccable numbers, structure. and natural mass Hed sure pretty up some Canadian blood with that style-moderate overall BWS-and ad-thickness O0

First roan bull is Saskvalley Editor. 4287380.  Bert Moore commented after seeing him that he thought he was the best bull Saskvalley had ever bred.  I just finished up my first calf crop with him. The calves are excellent.  Thick mid 80lb calves how they should be.  Big buck like necks on them at a week old- definitely nothing like the rats you talk about.  Definitely like what I see so far so Ill keep using him for sure.

The second bull is Diamond K Roan Ranger 4220114.  Lot of old genetics there- be hard pressed to find a bull who goes back to leader 21 more times- check him out.  I kept 8 of his heifers (attch pic) this past year and 1 bull I'll use myself some in the future.  Xbar Gentry 4291970.  Smoking good calf - one with the black nose I commented about.  Saw Oakviews post awhile back about having a black nose bull in the past that never threw any black nose calves so Ive kept him and and we'll see.  Maybe use him over the Editor and Leveldale Genesis spring '20 heifers next year.

Ill breed those Roan Ranger heifers to a dark roan Maestro son I raised- xbar festus 4283517.  I sold half interest in this bull to Blair at Lushacres.  Hes using him now.  He had about 6 WHR bred bulls there couple bloodstones, a trump son, code red son, etc so given the priority he places on form, I suspect picking out Festus meant he had at least enough eye appeal to work with.

I like Dale's 1625 bull.  Looks ideally sized and, most importantly, proportional-  Any pics square on of his head? Show me that dead center whorl!

Ill post what I have but they arent really the best representations -Hes being collected and Dale needs to get some pics close up I think a little bit of his type and something big enough with some TPS Leader or Proud Jazz would work gangbusters on the Canadian blood and alot of the other stuff back there If the leader 21st from Klose and was Dividend We had the best progeny over a lot of years by Deertrail Awesome, Goldwalk, etc out of linebred dividends-they work on just about anything: Enticer, Rodeo, Improver clubby-even native.Deertrail Sagebrush who was an early CE deal and used alot by Backenhus was Sired by Awsomes full brother and a dividend cow Dales bull will really work by pedigree that way and ditto if its the Tieman Blood-If youve got either line up  going on the Canadian Bulls Daughters from the JR Ranch-Jungels, Maybe Byland Dazzler relatives ,Back to Rocker bros  etc- It AWTA work JMO

Going back to the original post, There also seems to have been a trend for extreme body and flank depth.  How much is too much?  Bulls like Colburn Creed and Duff Palermo seem to be extreme examples
