Calving Ease Bulls (Mind Bender, Kolt Kane Nitro?)

I bought a Loaded for Bear x Front & Center heifer this past april and have been trying to decide what to AI her to, as I don’t want to breed her to our herd bulls (Fullblood Simmentals) for her first calf. Will most likely be using whatever bull she is AI’d to on some halfblood simmental heifers and possibly a few shorthorn crosses. I’ve been heavily considering JFK Mind Bender and Kolt Kane Nitro. I don’t care about getting the winning calf, just about getting a live, healthy calf (though I wouldn’t mind some color ). Any suggestions, pictures of calves out of either bull, experiences with these bulls, etc?

Mind bender is so thick id be wary of using him on a heifer he sires maybe the thickest calves out of everybody including man amongst boys etc-albeit more grow ID SAY DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT ON A HEIFER Nitros a safe bet  you wont get any power in the calf at all-you are likely to get a blue roan-Doesnt matter where you are-They are the hardest color to produce-And sell anywhere  JMO-DJS outsider is the all around best shorthorn bull AVAILABLE BAR NONE OF EVERYTHING OUT THERE -There have been  a large number of very high quality high sellers and show winners  in a very short time-It depends upon how big she was at birth He has sired a bunch of white and roan calves-Only one red that Ive heard about-Any bad feelings about it-USE RED WHITE AND ROAN-Hes as easy calving  as Nitro or better-with ten times the progeny-and will make two of him-I dont feel Nitro is worth the disappointment when there are other bulls that are as easy calving or better He doesnt have the quality or thickness  O0

I'm going to have to strongly disagree with Mark. To start off with a blue roan is not hard to sell. They are usually way easier to sell than a solid red or RWM. As far as calving ease goes, I would use him any day and not worry. The calves are pretty stylish and the heifers make really nice cows. Just my opinion and experience.
As far as Outsider goes, I have zero experience with. By his numbers he should be calving ease and what's been registered . If I have even seen anything out of him I really don't remember. So I personally am not rushing out to use him especially with him being out of a JPJ cow and he is a DSC(I'm not a JPJ fan at all). Looks like the majority of the calves by him were from Quad K in IL. Looks like Hahn used him a little.  JMHO.

"Blue roans are hardest to produce and sell anywhere' Doesnt sound negative to me-Im a huge fan-and always try to get one this year included  Outsider was relatively below the radar two years ago He is not a hard calver at all-It depends upon the female as usual And he is a good sized bull with very good performance Oh POOH POOH-Proud Jazz is in there he only brought the breed back to life when once again nobody would touch a Shorthorn and FOR DAM GOOD REASON--Speaking of cows-He combines 1-The two top cow families ever used by Steck from Mckee-the Cherrys and Annadells-Many national show winners-even several clones at Sullivans , 2-The highest quality bull ever used by Steck and whoever could get semen-Charisma-Sire of a ton of big selling cattle with real world quality too -and last years (2018)national Champion female and ARSULU MEG. 3 years ago he was off the radar as a lease bull to Quad K-Jim Compton bought him Heres a few of last years shows-3 were at the National Jr Show Jims white heifer was so thick he showed her as a market-she was second-Sullivans real big $ and real good black was third Quad k brought two-both were division champions Jims white heifer went on to be Grand Champion Shorthorn heifer at AKSARBAN-arguably one of the toughest shows for cowy females in the US Also-grand feeder steer at Ohio State fair Grand heifer Iowa beef expo and badger-others At the same time-alot of people down South started using him-Laughtner finally got Jim to sell him after the first years calf crop kicked ass in shows and private-otherwise sales  He is now  the most widely used Shorthorn bull available to mere mortals of all types of cattle A FEW  SALES last year-$36000 Short plus steer-Goretzka I think-Jim sold 7 or so -from a low of $5000 to a $17000 steer-to a private $26000 plus steer with Griener or one of those guys-along with a white $5500 I think plus heifer at Grieners A bunch have popped up further South-I saw one plus Sharon Herje sold to Crow Creek etc-barn burner heifer good sized and as sound as you can make one This year-Compton had 3 closely related  daughters in the barn-One is undefeated: champion Shorthorn heifer iowa Beef Expo And Badger-The other 2 were each reserve at both shows respectively All his cattle are kept pretty green when young-are later maturing types-and so far have out performed anything in thier classes that are less than maybe 8 months older than they are LOL-He had another 2 that he took to a couple jackpots in Iowa who also won Champion and reserve or division both shows  Corona has stopped everything more or less since  Anyone who thinks these cattle wont work in the field just needs to see Stecks sale-They were right out of the field-they were not clipped or even washed-and the quality stood out as evidenced by the buyers-Will on here stole one-But not many others went that way Sorry-but Shrags bull sold pretty cheap and more or less disappeared-Tough comparison when you look at the track record of Outsider with what was until recently was very limited use JMO O0

Hey with that ped i would not hesitate to use no worries. We have used him on several and like him alot. Ill attact a pic of a calf we had last july out of a man amonst boys x whiskey/meyer heifer. Also we have used rwr alot on all of our shorthorn/shorthorn appearing ( thats right i said it we raise show steers in texas) and have had no problem on some cows that can throw em big. And nothin over 75lbs.

Misunderstood what you were saying. I read it as hardest to produce and hardest to sell anywhere.
As far as Outsider goes, to each their own. Like I said, if I have seen any progeny they just didn't stick in my mind to make that big of an impression. But I'm not as a worldly travelled man as you and don't see as much cattle.
I'll still take the my Nitro's.

Im not worldly being from the land of outdoor plumbing nor can I afford to travel I just study the cattle Its not hard to go online and follow sales and Shows like: Iowa beef Expo, Badger, Illinois Beef Expo, Ohio State Fair, and the National jr Heifer show-IN Tennessee I would even post 7 or 8 of his progeny but its probably a waste of time I  know this bull because my good friend was involved with him-I also have been acquainted with the cattle in the females pedigree-ESPECIALLY Harrietta-the greatest money producing and bull producing cow of all time-And the cattle related to her  were dual-maternal and thick-Anybody who isnt stuck in a one breed train of thought WISH TO BACK ME UP ON HARRIETTA? O0

Thanks JC-and you are essentially doing a similar deal as us-Cattle to show cuz thats our market-That are also functional-not terminal-those calves and the others you posted demonstrate that to me at least. It aint allways perfect-and you are in an EXTREMELY competitive area-they have to be way good to even go to a county fair O0

Yes sir, we have had some blue roans and they just have to be better than the rest to even do it and its had to do it. So we try not to put shorthorn blood on our blacks for that reason why i mentioned no worries. But with front &center in on it it could make a cool painted up one to outsider or to rwr

Sure would-Maybe even a Red Baldy or what we used to see out of OKIE amd Texas in Double Stuff times ONION HEADS- Those were roansX Hereford with a Hereford head and face-Spot em a mile away-If I wasnt barn blind on Outsider-and that heifers Th clean-Safe and Sound might work too O0

Couple more sale heifers-1 did $8500 And Comptons white heifer-Who came down sick so was not that shiny O0  EVERYTHING BUT THE DARK ROAN WINNER AT BADGER ARE FROM 2019-And thats NOT all of them O0
