I agree, straw is a much better bedding than sawdust or shavings for any animal giving birth. 

One of our best investments was the calf drying/heating box.

Thank you to everyone for all your advice and tips. Unfortantly our heifer had her calf tonight and we lost the calf due to being to big. It was very difficult pull that took several hours. Now I am just hoping the heifer makes it. Once again THANK YOU!!!

Skf if you don't mind my asking, what are the genetics involved? Both the momma & baby, I would appreciate knowing so that I might  not make the same mating. Thanks, Brent.

Oh, shoot ....I'm so sorry.  Hopefully the heifer recovers ok.

She was bred to golden Child. We bought her she was already bred I would have NEVER used Golden Child on a heifer. It was a very difficult pull but the heifer is doing so much better today. Last night I was not sure she was going to make it.
