When two full years had passed, Pharaoh had a dream: He was standing by the Nile, when out of the river there came up seven cows, sleek and fat, and they grazed among the reeds. After them, seven other cows, ugly and gaunt, came up out of the Nile and stood beside those on the riverbank. And the cows that were ugly and gaunt ate up the seven sleek, fat cows. Then Pharaoh woke up.

Genesis 41:1-4

Heres a few verses that caught my attention.

Joseph interpreted that dream to mean 7 yrs of abundant harvest then 7 yrs of famine. Lots of those biblical folks were livestock owners.

I think the 7 ugly and gaunt cows were ex show heifers out in the real world and they ate 7 of Kit PHAROS range cattle. Where do the Neanderthal fit in here? ;D

I know oxen were used on the smoky hill trail from Leavenworth to the Denver gold fields and the Oregon trail and what not. Oxen held up better than horses under tough conditions. The "Pikes Peak" golf rush of 1859 really opened this country up which in turn started the indian uprising.

Cattle way back through history were owned and used only by and for the very, very wealthy.

Oxen were much tougher than draft horses or mules in the western US migration.

Not sure what "breeds" were used for oxen in ancient, biblical times.  Some might still be around.  I remember watching the HBO miniseries Rome a couple of years ago and saw a couple of oxen hooked to a Roman wagon.  Never really saw cattle that looked like that before, but they were huge.  Had a few white Chi looking traits.

I know that the freighters on the BOD actually shoed the oxen(like a horse). The iron shoes are shaped different and larger. Once in a while someone will find one on the trails. The Longhorns always interested me. If the Spainards introduced them to Mexico(by them getting looose) or where ever. Did the longhorns as we know them look like that when the conquistadors lost the strays. Or did they evolve or adapt in the desert and obtain the phenotype? They had  a couple hundred years to adapt before the American civil war was over and the roundup of the wild longhorns began. The Maines came from France but since the french don't like to work...could the Maines have been draft animals or just used to smash grapes. These are questions that keep me up at night. ;D

That might be the most clever thing I've ever heard.
