My Hawgs would be the Nat'l Champs this year, if McFadden and Jones and Monk had any TeamMates! If "Athletic Director" (Head Coach) Frank 'alzheimers' Broyles hadn't fooled around and lost Malzahn and his three Springdale High-School All-americans ( how often does THAT happen?), we would be in the history books. I hope we can overcome this challenge.

Congrats to you all,

GaryBob

As an outsider looking in... I think that it's past time for Huston Nutt to go, especially after all the offseason turmoil.  I also agree about losing the Springdale kids... that was a huge loss for Arkansas.  Casey Dick isn't the answer at QB & Mitch Mustain was a highly touted passing QB who could have really helped take the pressure off of McFadden & Jones.  If Mustain had played up to his potential this year, you guys just might have been #1 in the SEC West... yes, I know that LSU is in that division.  As it stands, I think that Arkansas can still make some noise in the west.  I also think that you guys have a really good shot at beating South Carolina.  I'm sure that Shortdawg wouldn't mind that happening & I know that I wouldn't mind it ether!  ;)

Mizzou plays Oklahoma this weekend @ Norman.  Should be a good game.

Mizzou is a good team & I'd like to wish you the best against Oklahoma!

BTW, it didn't matter, but Mizzou got absolutely hosed right before the half by the replay booth!!  Whoever that replay official was should be fined big time for not correcting that call.  I mean there was absolutely no excuse for not calling a TD when the TV camera clearly showed that he came down with a foot in the endzone, especially when they stopped play to review it!!  It's one thing to blow a call, but it's another thing when you have perfectly clear video evidence & you still blow the call!!

Some interesting stats comparing LSU and Kentucky using South Carolina as a common opponent.  Prepare to be suprised!

***LSU's offense against South Carolina defense   --verses--   UK offense against South Carolina defense...

TOTAL YARDS...      LSU...360 / UK...384
1ST DOWNS ...        LSU...19 /  UK...26
RUSHING YARDS...  LSU..290 / UK...157
PASSING YARDS...   LSU..70   / UK...227

The big difference is that we turned the ball over several times (5 fumbles, 3 fumbles lost, 2 returned for touchdown's & 1 interception) & LSU didn't have a turnover.

***LSU defense against South Carolina offense   --verses--    UK defense against South Carolina offense...

TOTAL YARDS...      LSU... 261  /  UK...342
1ST DOWNS...         LSU...    16 /  UK...  18
RUSHING YARDS...  LSU...    17 /  UK...  86
PASSING YARDS...   LSU...  244 /  UK...256

As you can see, it's no suprise that LSU's defense is better than our D, but I am suprised at how close the numbers actually are.  Also, our offense never really got it going against South Carolina & we played about as badly as we can play against them.  However, we still put up better offensive numbers than LSU did against the same team. I'm not saying that we are going to beat LSU, in fact, we might get spanked, BUT, I am feeling a whole lot better about our chances!!  Hey, if Stanford can beat USC... we can pull off this upset!!

If we do upset LSU, who plays for the title... South Florida verses Hawaii???     :p  (clapping)

Shortdawg... congrats on the win over Vandy!  (clapping)

BTW, I'm sure that you already know, but your coach, Mark Richt, went ballistic on the UGA players after they went to midfield to stomp the V & said afterwards "we don't do that here".  My hat is off to him for doing that!!  He's a class act, a man of faith & good football coach... he really gainned my respect today.  Also, I've probably never mentioned this to you, but I was a BIG David Pollock fan!!  Even though he was the enemy, I always pulled for him!  He was another classy guy & a great football player!!

Congrats TJ, on the win against the best team in the Nation. Number 1 teams are always the hunted and get everyone's best shot. Your Wildcats played great and deserve the win. I'm still sticking with ny prediction about LSU though. David Pollack was one of the best ever at UGA and a good Christian fellow just like his Coach.

I assume that you are talking about UK / Kentucky (KU is Kansas) & that you are talking about Derrick Locke, our 4th string RB from Hugo, Oklahoma.  That kid is going to be dynamite... already is.  How that kid got away from the Oklahoma/Big 12 schools is a mystery to me!!  I mean he only rushed for 3,200+ yards & scored 51 touchdowns in his senior season... not to mention that he's as fast as a gazelle & had the best long jump in the entire nation last year!!  I'm glad he landed at UK, because with Rafael Little (our starting RB) & Alfonso Smith (our 3rd string RB) both sitting out of the game, we needed him to step up big & he did.  Not many true freshman running backs can say that they were instrumental in beating a #1 ranked team & also a tough Arkansas team that features maybe the most talented RB tandem ever to play in the SEC, but Derrick Locke can!!  He was a huge factor in beating both of those teams.

Thanks, Shortdawg!  I wanted to point out that we were awful banged up & still pulled it off!

The following Kentucky players did not play against LSU...

*Rafael Little (starting RB & punt returner)
*Alfonso Smith (3rd string RB/kick coverage specialist)
*Johnny Williams (starting Strongside LB)
*Marcus McClinton (our starting safety, who had a big interception against Arkansas)
*Ricky Lumpkin (started 2 games at DT before going down to an injury)
Note: I'm not counting the guys who were injured before the season.

Those who played at way less than 100%...
* EJ Adams (our best back up corner) still is not close to 100%.
*Jason Leger (2 time SEC O-lineman of the week) was battling a foot injury.
*Keenan Burton (our best WR & kick returner) was battling the flu & still has a bad ankle (that's why he looked so awful in limited duty & didn't play very much).
*Sam Maxwell (our back up strong side LB) also was battling sickness & had a 100 degree temp.

Those banged up during the game...
*Paul Warford (starting corner) broke his collar bone in the 4th quarter making a tackle.
*David Jones (corner)

Never in my wildest dreams did I think that Kentucky could beat LSU with that many players out or not playing at 100%, but even though we were pretty banged up, we still had enough at the end to beat LSU in 3 OT's.  I don't know about anyone else, but that fact that we could do that against a MONSTER like LSU really impresses me!  Although it sure didn't hurt to have a #2 receiver like Steve Johnson & a 4th string RB like Derrick Locke waiting to step up!!  Without those 2, our offense would've been in BIG trouble.

RE LSU winning it all...  They still might, but we just made it a whole lot harder for them!!  ;)

RE David Pollack... I wish I had a whole team of David Pollack's!!

BTW, It looks like both of our teams have Florida up next on the schedule!!  Hopefully, we can somehow get healthy, out play them & then send them on a 3 game losing streak, so that UGA can be in a position to hand them their 4th straight loss in a row!!  Wouldn't that be something if that actually happened... a 4 SEC loss FL team!!   But, the reality is that they have had a week off to prepare for us & they are going to be tough to beat.  Hopefully, we are going to be up for the task!!  Hopefully, the Dawgs will also be up for the task!!  I'm pulling for both of us!!

GO BIG BLUE!!

Widcats will work.  BTW, I knew what you meant since people call us KU all the time.  I just don't want us to be confused with Kansas, although I do wish that we were undefeated like Kansas is.  Kansas undefeated...

BTW, hopefully Oklahoma will send us another Derrick Locke!!   ;)

What is nice about the FL game this year is we have a week off before we play them.  In the past, they have always had a week off before we played them. Will it make a difference ? I think it sure has for them the past few years.

RE your week off... I think that week off is going to be a huge advantage for Georgia.  Also, the Gators are going to be sky high playing us this weekend & it's hard to get up for 2 big games in a row, so that is another advantage for Georgia.

However, those same exact 2 things are going to be a huge advantage for Florida when they play us this weekend.  That extra week to prepare & to rest up (mentally & physically) is a huge advantage, IMHO.  Plus, Florida is on a 2 game losing streak & they absolutely CAN NOT afford to lose 1 more, so they are going be playing really hard against us this weekend...we will get their best effort & then some!!  If we didn't have the homefield advantage & if we didn't have a group of hungry players, I wouldn't like our chances.   But, even with the homefield advantage, we could still very easily lose this game.

It was announced today that Rafael Little (our starting RB) is out indefinately (probably 3 weeks) & Paul Warford (our starting corner) is out for 2-3 weeks due to a broken collar bone.  However, Ricky Lumpkin (who started a couple of games @ DT before going down) will attempt to practice this week & might play, which is excellent news!!  Everyone else should play, which is also excellent news, but several may not be 100%.  I did find out that Burtons ankle is better, and that is maybe the best news, he was just deathly ill against LSU... he was throwing up for 3 straight days last week/weekend!!

With Little out, expect to see Tony Dixon continue to start, but Alfonso Smith & Derrick Locke will likely split carries with him this weekend.  Also, don't be suprised to see Moncell Allen (another true freshman) get some carries this week.

The dual threat of Tebow running OR Tebow throwing the ball to Harvin will cause us some problems, defensively.  However, on the flip side, the Florida defense is good, but they certainly aren't LSU good, nor is their pass defense South Carolina good, so we better take advantage by scoring points & by continually milking the clock.  Florida also has some speedsters returning kicks & we've given up some long kick returns, so that is a worry too.

This game could go either way.  I like our chances, but Florida has a whole lot of things going for them & IMHO, anything could happen.

***  Edited to add that besides Little & Warford being out, it now looks like our starting strongside OLB, Johnny Williams, is probably a no go for Florida.  Ricky Lumpkin, (DT) will practice a limited amount this week, but is now very doubtful to see any action against Florida.  Also, this weeks probable starting running back, Tony Dixon is questionable, but will probably be able to play.  Because we are trying to get healthy for Florida, this morning the team practiced in helmets & shorts with little to no contact. ***
