I had the pleasure to travel to Illinois via Missouri today. I met with the owner operator of Diamond M Shorthorns. Picked up this gal below and she is making her hom in Ohio now. The Mc Farland Family have some great cattle. Functional, sound and attractive patterned group. The LEgacy bull is the real deal. I haven't seen a group of calves that were so consistent. In one pen Mr McFarland asked me to pick out which one wasn't a Legacy calf. It was obvious. Big hip great hair just very complete cattle. If we could have stayed for a bite to eat we would have. THat 7 1/2 hour drive was a killer.Stuart was super to deal with. Honest from the get go and very willing to accomodate my crazy travel schedule and restrictions! Thank you Mc Farland family!!.

Shorty breeders take a second look at the Legacy bull. On the way home I ask Stuart to ship me some semen for this spring breeding season.(Ar Su Lu Legacy 65)

That is a pretty nice little heifer, OH Breeder. What is she on the bottom side?

She has a very interesting pedigree. Au Su Lu Legacy on the top which goes back to some good ones Gizmo, Pacer, Red Cloud. Bottom is the Orchid Cow family and a clean Kool Daughter. She has an amazing top great spring of rib. probably going to run on the moderate side as far as size. Great temperament. She has cow written all over her. I am glad to finally have her at home!

We are McFarland's co-op herd in South Dakota.
Not akidding Legacy is the real deal.  We are even putting Legacy into some crossbred cows of our own for clubby calves.
Have a bunch of Legacy calves coming this spring.
Look for more great ones this year out of the McFarland/Franz herd!

What do you all think I should breed her to for calving ease? I was thinking Elbee Gizmo but he is her paternal grandfather.Anyone had any luck with breeding grandfather's to granddaughters. It is what I am comfortable with and feel safe. I am sure Jake's Proud Jazz would also work. Personally I don't care about frame size. We like them smaller!

I don't think that you would have a problem. I think that is what Elbee has kinda based his herd on. Furthermore if that is what you feel comfortable with , then go for it.

I't not breeding grandsire to granddaughter... it's more about what kinds of genetic problems might arise.

Good thing is both sides are clean for defects. The female is structurally sound and I am not expecting any issues. Do you all know something about Gizmo I don't? ???

By the way KF, we went through just about every bit of weather one can go through in a day. 10 degrees when we left Ohio, got up to 45 then started raining then dropped to 38 sleet then to 31 freezing rain then to 26 snow and ice. Got to Missouri temp up to 28 and sunny. Going home was little better.Didn't start freezing rain an til about an hour half away from home. I am not sure I could have drove another hour. Now, maybe next time out that way I can grab a cup of coffee and the camera and swing by your place. :p

"right at the cross roads or I64 & I57"... Interesting.  Sounds like you are just slightly over an hour from my house.  I didn't realize that we lived that close to each other.
