Yukon tested th and pha free 1-02-2014 at Zoetis. What others are needed?

You'd have to call into the association to be sure, but if he has the TH and PHA I think he'd just need a dna sample on record and a DS test.

dna is on file at amaa and maybe ds can be done from the th/pha sample. is a 50k test mandatory for an ai bull? it has ruined many a good Angus.

I've never asked about the AI bull requirement without the 50k included, so I'm not sure. Here's a link to the current dna form...

https://shorthorn.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/GeneticTestingForm_Fillable_2.19.pdf

I have done the high density testing on a few head as well as the low density 50k testing on some and honestly can't tell either did anything to my epds. The ASA is supposed to be switching to the new single step BOLT technology soon, so perhaps that will change things. I know I have had dna results forwarded from the ASA to the Red Angus association to meet their sire requirements, but I have never tried to transfer them from another breed to the ASA.

I don't think a DNA test can "ruin" a "good" bull because if they really are genetically superior then it will come through, and if they aren't that good then it's best we know.

my poorly stated point was intended to be that 50k testing lowered epd's of some awfully good animals. being an auditor at one time in my life, i don't think you can rely on data if the sample size is too low. not enough animals have been tested to rely on 50k results and how they change epd's if they are applied across the total population of each breed. if you tested your whole herd and used the results to improve your herd you are on the right track if you incorporate them with other factors such as your environment. if only 1% of the breed has been 50k tested, there is not much on which to rely. i am a phenotype guy. if a cow is a good motor scooter as my friend would say, i have a place for her.

Great looking cow-I think the whole genetic deal has stumbling blocks across all breeds-especially Shorthorns-where the politically correct testing took MONTHS-probably due to kickbacks from the inept testing deal to the ASSOC. O0

Dalton x Loulou is the bomb (lots of power) combined with a bit of Cunia plus a nuance of other genes.  Extremely difficult to find one with that much center body. If he has some good wheels he will work especially in the show ring. Super stout.

All I saw was a very stout calf. Should have looked closer.

Calf looks like her pedigree. The genetics are my favorite when comes to Maine Anjou.

Rocky Lane Whirlwind is where you'll find WB Liner as well.

Knabe, why is that bull's pedigree different in the AMAA and the sale catalog? AMAA is showing a completely different cow family.

the correct one is not entered into the amaa herdbook yet for some reason.

they probably couldn't deal with the fact that breeder named two bulls the same name.

not sure what to do about that.

in the cmaa, they are both there.

Bysantn granddaughter on top, Capone on bottom.

Only other pedigree that goes to vainqueur besides prospector 242p that is useable.

Unfortunately, it’s way back there.

Only two fullblood lines that I know of survived, anchor entincelle and Fabico.  A couple purebreds survived such as the smithbilt line through anchor etincelle.  Smithbilt had a full sib sister.
