I'm going to ask this question and hope I don't get jumped on too bad....I know people dye their show cattle because I've seen the hair dye in supply magazines, but it is black.  My question is, can you dye a red heifer with red hair dye?  Opinions and suggestions appreciated, thanks.

I've seen it done.  It's pretty hard to actually get a natural look, though - hard to match the actual shade. and if not's a near perfect match it'll show up somewhere.  I've heard of using not a dye, but some sort of "rinse" to darken one a shade.  The rinse is supposed to blend better.

I have to agree with above post.  We've been showing for years and have seen a couple people try a red dye and it has never looked natural enough to pass.

Most of the reason we dye calves is to get the red tint out or the dead hair freshened back up, you don't really see that in red cattle, so  I suppose you could dye a red one, I just don't see what the purpose would be.
