yet they kick the military out of high schools where veterans have returned from iraq.  just goes to show how schools are basically an indoctination factory and will only allow one side of any political argument, usually the left, sympathy stuff, higher tax stuff, endless.  some day there will be no more silent majority, they will all be either dead or assimilated through indoctrination and demographics.

I don't know how many people I have talked to here in the more recent years that are highly against slaughtering cattle for beef.

I have even been called names for being involved in the industry.

These are sad times folks.  :(

I am relieved to see the piece of literature that SRU posted was actually against PETA though. That's a first that I've seen - And it looks as long and as expensive to produce as something PETA would put out - so its nice to see someone putting the time and funding into a document disclosing a bit of the other side. Hopefully, this piece gets passed around.

I Like the fact that the folks at Consumer freedom have taken the reins and talked about the violence and misinformation that PETA distributes.  However, how many people are willing to sit and read all of this information.  In todays society, it is the sound bites that win the minds and emotions of our population.  What we need is information that is short and snappy.

PETA's adoption rates seems to be going DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!

In 2000, when the Associated Press first noted PETA's Kervorkian-esque tendencies, PETA president Ingrid Newkirk complained that actually taking care of animals costs more than killing them.

hmm, sounds like the oregon health care system where a woman was denied a cancer drug but was offered euthansia in an unsigned letter from the government.

PETA rakes in nearly $30 million each year in income, much of it raised from pet owners who think their donations actually help animals.

surely it can't cost that much just to pay for the incineration bill.

this issue is similar to the horse slaughter issue, but most americans are too dettached from reality to even care.  there is no industry that is ethical in the eyes of PETA except raking in cash for anything than what the cash is for.

if anything, PETA and their supporters and donors and sympathetic politicians will argure that the need MORE money.

hmm, if only they had a product to sell rather than just a quick trip to the incinerator.  amazing they get tax exempt status.

peta (not going to capalize something as disrespectful as them) is well funded by very loyal and misinformed people.
And we complain that "they have more money", they have "wrong information", they are so powerful.

Stop whining and do something about it. They have power and influence because WE LET THEM HAVE IT!!  When was the last time you donated a large chunk of money, or any money for that matter, to a pro-animal agriculture group? Or to an anti-peta group? When have you donated your time to attend meetings, a local protest?
When was the last time you wrote an article explaining and supporting your way of life? Putting out TRUE information?
When was the last time  you personally visited or at the very least wrote to your congressman, legislature explaining the importance of what you do?

It about time we stand up and take a stand instead of just talking to each other about how awful such groups are. We are preaching to the choir and the choir is pretty apathetic right now.

By the way, my Congressman has heard from me many times, I have wrote articles for the local papers,  I have "butted in" on conversations at the fair when I hear mis-information.  I have been to meetings both for and against animal ag.  I have "exposed" peta's ways and misinformation.
What about YOU?

These people think that cattle are treated badly. Some of us have barns, or sheds for our cattle that are bigger than our own houses! They get fed every day, and watered. They have everything they need, and live a life of luxury! Heck, I know some people who treat their cattle better than their kids! (lol) And, when they do go to slaughter, they are dealt with in a humane manner. They never even know what happens.

Peta has power because we give it to them by giving into their demands by changing the way we do things to appease them.  It is just like negotiating with terrorists.  You can't give an inch.  We need to just dismiss them as the wackos that they are and preach to our own children that these people are no better than the radicle islamic terrorists and deserved to be treated as such.

I agree with Showheifer. We, as ag producers do not do enough to protect our own industry. peta is not dumb despite our perception that they promote "dumb" cases. A few weeks ago, I heard a radio talk show on which they were talking about Peta and the topic was " is Peta an animal rights organization or just another left wing extremist group?  I was shocked as I listened to countless people who sounded like ordinary " normal" folks who phoned in and stated that they felt peta did excellent work for animal rights. Many said they gave money to peta on a regular basis ( at least once a year). Many thought peta was similar to a nationally funded humane society. I can understand some of these opinions if they had been coming from some of our larger urban cities, where they are very isolated from rural agriculture, but the comments I heard were coming from people in the heartland of the country, who live very close to agriculture.

I feel that peta is a very serious threat to our industry. Their leadership are nothing more than left wing whack jobs that are terrorists amongst us. They are masters of delusion and are just like the Taliban, in that they are satisfied to take over the world one person at a time. ( the radical Moslems say they will take over the world, one birth at a time... which may explain why birth rates in Arab countries are 5 Xs that of any Western democratic nation.... but that is another story). Peta is, presently considering attacking the livestock shows in N America as being very harmful to animals... and I really feel we will see their vigilante attacks at some shows before long.

Is peta affecting our belief systems here?   Of course they are. Their misguided logic has already entered our schools. In a number of Western Canadian cities, peta members have handed out pamphlets outside kindergarden and grade 1 classes, that tell kids that drinking milk will kill them. peta is slowly changing our society's values of what is right and wrong. In some European countries, it is against the law to castrate a male animal. All beef animals must be fed as bulls. To castrate a bull, would lead to severe fines and your licence to raise cattle.... and even could lead to jail terms.... and this is in democratic " Western" countries.
A group from Britain, who visited Canada last fall, could not believe that kids were allowed to ride sheep ( mutton busting) as entertainment events at rodeos. They said this would never be allowed anywhere in Europe.
I think we all, have to think about the ways we raise animals , and we all have to be conscious of what we consider normal management practices, and how they are perceived by others in society.

I really think we simply cannot sit back and be passive about peta and it's causes. We need to get informed, and get our message straight, as they would just love to get a producer to say something that can be twisted in the wrong ways. This is a war that we have to prepare for and we will only win it if it is well funded and well thought out. If any of us care about the future generations having the enjoyment and right to produce and raise animals on our farms... we better start to get off our duffs and do something about this. This is a very serious issue!!!!

I think that the public has some issues teling the difference between Animal RIGHTS and Animal WELFARE. I think even among producers there are some things that I would like to change about animal welfare but it isnt going to happen.(like the videos from the slaughtherhouse). I have been to several processing pants and seen the whole process and all of our plants are run in the most humae of ways possible for the industry. Animals IMO have the rights to food, water, and care (like vet care)....and thats it. Too many people now are humanizing their animals. They have clothes and "doggie botiques" and all sorts of other stuff and because of the humanization of animals even China has had to change their culture! ( well at least temporarily for the olympics) I see nothing wrong with China serving dogs and cats because to them they are food animals just like cows are to us.I think too many people seperate where their food comes from and how amny by-products are used in everyday life. I think peta must run around naked and no ttouch anything in an effort to not have any part of animal products. ( maybe that is a little extreame on my part). I dont want to insult anyone but some of the religous ways of slaughter can be pretty "different" and they do not have to follow the same set of rules as traditional slaughter. One other thing I can say is that not very many "livestock" suffer the way that pets do by being homeless or in shelters at least they have somewhere to go either to another farm or to the packing plant...they dont have to roam the streets looking for food or spend their days locked in cage where they go crazy, and most dont end up on animal planet. Some of the not so hardcore peta people I have seen have been protesting with leather belts or shoes...what is the difference?

I am almost done I promise.....
At the local fairs with pulling oxen we sometimes get a hard time about "hitting them" with our sticks. We follow a set of rules and blah blah blah...well these people complain about it while they are munching on a cheeseburger! (see I got the dairy industry in on this too  :D
I had another woman on day tell me that I was being cruel to a calf....she says "look at him he looks to be distressed. He has his eyes closed and is twitching!! How horrible I am going to report you!" I said " ma'am acutally he is laying right in front of the fan right here and he is twitching becasue he is dreaming like a dog does! Go ahead and report me but I think he is enjoying himself!"

I had one of the few Horse slaughterhouses in the US close to my house. I was wondering if anyone has seen or heard of horses being or starved? I haven't heard anything since they decided to shut them down.

Heard on another forum that people have been putting horses on other peoples traielrs at sales, tieing them to other people's trailers, letting them just go. I know around here that people are giving them away because there is no market for them... even "good" riding horses are going cheap through the sales.

only the government is allowed to do that, and they won't even fire anyone for it either.  they are just "learning".

they haven't heard of castration, birth control, spaying, nothing.

Just shoot them and let the coyotes clean em up....
Or is that solution too simple and cheap?????

we already defanged the coyotes and gave them chew toys.

i say tie a horse to the mailbox at diane feinstein's house in SF.  she probably hasn't been to the grand national in her entire life (at the cow palace).
