JSF Capiche !!

This is a Capiche steer calf we had from a first calf heifer hit the ground at 74 lbs., kept him around as a buddy steer for my kids show steer and he will be going in my freezer in a couple weeks. He weighted in at 1404 lbs., yesterday and was on feed for 177 days where he averaged 2.7 ADG. Overall I will use Capiche again on replacements as they came easy and grew well with a marketable product in the end. If he carried muscle down into the lower quarter I would like him better, did not get any heifer calves out of the breeding so I can't comment on what his heifers calves might do.

Phenotypically, He looks like the average commercial Shorthorn crossbred Steer. Sooooooooooo many producers and marketers all CLAIM to think that calves like him are the EXCEPTION and not the RULE, when it comes to the utility of Shorthorns in the Marketplace.

Let us know HOW HE grades-and how it tasted-You may be surprised how good the beef really is-especially mixing the marbling abilities of a very conventional Shorthorn sire-and a commercial cow-who from the looks of the calf-probably has some simmital-among other things. Simm-Shorthorn has really worked-on the few Ive seenartucularly a hiefer out of NLC Upgradex my old Cumberland cow at DMCC-They said shes real good-so did the other owner(Kerry Aubrey) of the Aubreys Black Blaze cow-arguably one of the hottest Simmital females in the breed right now.O0

I'm guessing he's half Horned Hereford ( registered???)

Thats an age old real good cross-my grandfather liked:but normally,they are brockle faced which threw me off with the blaze,-keep us posted <party> O0

He is half Hereford a Stoutline X Yankee heifer, and I had 6 steer calves from the breeding, he was not the best but the better calf had a very poor attitude. I will let you know how he grades and I have no doubt that he will taste great. I had been told by numerous people that the Capiche calves would not grow so the Hereford influence must have put the size to him. LOL  ;D

Thats gotta be one of the better US-Australian crosses Ive ever seen.I just never seemed to make it work.Sprys Cyclone was maybe the coolest looking Australian bull of the "Aussie Wave in the 90s-2000+-) and so was his dam-but was an absolute dud from what I saw.Thats a great calf-its actually the old Rodeo -Enticer cross come back if you travel the mists of time in all Golds-and Capiches pedigree. O0

Can anyone speak for his length of body and the length of body that his calves exhibit? I am considering breeding him to some shorthorn angus heifer, but was noticing his 205 day weight of 588 and am not ok with that weight. Was wondering if that light weight comes from lack of length or???

I have had good growth with his calves. I have had 4 and they have an average daily gain of 3.07 lbs./day on grass and mommas milk. The bulls are fancy, I can't say as the heifers I had impressed me much. I had him crossed on three commercial Charolais cows and one black simmental. The best calf was off of the Macho sired simmental. I have one more due in a few weeks
